New to airguns, from Pittsburgh

You...need to do some research about...YOUR, area !
Google is your friend right ? Pretty simple actually. Type in "Gun range", with a comma, and YOUR city name, again, pretty simple, then hit "enter". Wait a couple of seconds to see what comes up on the screen. Maybe try a larger city nearby, the same action, hit enter...see what comes up.

If a range or two comes onto the screen...make a call to them and "ask", "do you allow air guns (rifles) ? Or, maybe an e-mail with the same question.

Mike

P.S. - Just to see how easy it is, I typed in "Pittsburgh, PA, gun range", into Google. Guess what, see I did YOUR...research for YOU. Four ranges came up on the screen ! Now it's your turn to see how far you want to drive, and make the call(s) to see if they allow air (pellet) guns.

This attitude is unnecessary.

To the OP's question @AGKev

There are a few beautiful gun ranges in Pgh - Keystone Shooting Center, Midwest Shooting Center, Elite Firearms Training (Bridgeville). They all have 25 yard indoor ranges that are available by the hour. You can absolutely shoot an airgun there.

But, airgunning is better suited (IMHO) to outdoor ranges where you can shoot spinners and plink a little more easily without as many people around you. I shoot at a local sportsmen's club that has a 200 yard range.

I'm not in Pgh, but Pitcarin-Monroeville is a great gun club. There should be lots of others close by. Marianna Field and Stream has PRS/NRL-22 matches there every so often if you every start shooting slugs.

If you need tanks filled, there's a great dive shop on the South Side that I can't remember the name of.

Good luck and keep the questions coming!

Whats up guys i just recently got in to airguns. I'm from the Pittsburgh PA area. I was wondering if there's any good places to shoot in the area. Can you shoot airguns at a regular gun range or are there specific places for airguns? Thanks!
Welcome to the family. You've picked a great place to hang out. Most of the members are very friendly and willing to help out whenever they can. I'm on the opposite end of the country so I can't answer your range question.

Depends on your discipline. Nico5999 is correct, airgunning is best done outdoors plinking, pesting, benchrest, field target, silhouette, reactionary targets, hunting, quigley bell. Here in southwest Pa there are two places I've shot indoors during the winter. Indoor NRA silhouette 10, 12.5, 15, 18 yards.

Otherwise there is a loose knit group of us, around dozen or more, that shoot in WV & SW PA. Everything from fun shoots to field target and everything in between.

One of the great things about owning an airgun is you can normally sneak of to some vacant acreage nearby and if you're not being a nuisance people will generally leave you alone. That being said, as you get closer to the Northeast, many townships have different regulations about shooting both airsoft and airguns. So it's always best to do a google search on "pittsburg airgun laws" to both gain an understanding of where and when you can shoot but also gave a printed out set just in case LE gives you a tough time.

When you shoot on "borrowed property"try to shoot elevated with the target a little closer to the ground so the projectile doesn't travel so far.

Welcome to the sport!

Or, hear me out, I can ask experienced people here that have the information, like I did. But thanks for your "help" anyways bud

I can’t offer any specifics about Pittsburg area but if you should find yourself coming past Hershey area, Palmyra Sportsman’s shooting club has plenty of air rifle activities.

I shoot my airguns along with firearms sometimes. My priority with finding shooting ranges is the quality of the facilities and the safety I see being practiced. I have yet to find a range that disallows airguns alongside of firearms.

If you pursue accuracy as a primary part of your airgunning, you might seek out an indoor range with 25 or more yards. Great for tuning and pellet selection. The only downside to these is the air currents inside can be significant when there are firearms blasting downrange next to you.

There are a few airgun only facilities around but very few. Mostly I see firearm and archery clubs that have an airgun component.

That was both unhelpful and wrong.

Many shooting clubs keep a very low profile and Google will give you nothing. Many shooting clubs, if they have a website, have minimal or out of date information. The key I’ve found, is getting plugged in somehow so you can find out what’s going on from people who are already involved.
