New to airguns - need some help/advice please!

Hello everyone - just getting into airguns but I've been target shooting for close to 40 years and I'm experiencing a problem and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Purchased a GAMO Whisper Fusion Elite with a GAMO 3-9x40 scope. I mounted the scope and leveled it true to the rifle and proceeded to zero it in at ~45 feet. Using a rest I'm getting a ~1" vertical group and ~6" horizontal (elevation) group??? I spent about 3 hours trying to figure out what is going on and the only thing I can think of is the velocity is way - WAY off from shot to shot.

I understand that, just like for firearms, some guns like certain ammo better than others. But that usually results in the groups being all over the place, not the 6" inch north-south, by 1" (windage) groups I'm getting.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice - all is appreciated.

Mike

It could be the way your holding the rifle. Like Joe sayed above springers need the artelory hold. It could also be the pellets. Be sure and try out different pellets, you probably want to start with dome and hollow point pellets. It could also be your scope, springers have a forward recoil which is known to brake them. And in a worse case scenario could the pellets be clipping the shroud? When you shoot your paper does it look like the pellets are going in side ways or keyholing? Good luck

Thanks - I did look up the hold, and yeah - I was holding it wrong. Also, I went ahead and ordered a new (hopefully much better) air-rated scope (the one that came with is terrible). It could be the pellets not being consistent in the bore from one to the next so I'm going to try some different, heavier, better made ones. The shroud looks ok. I hope it's not the gas ram and just needing a break in period. Appreciate you taking the time. Doing more research... it seems these things are a lot more finicky than I imagined.
