looks like a wheel that elevates the scope rail to like on,the frozen scopes of powder burners to move the rail to a different and hight]er point

I think it is an angle finder. Here is a similar one by Badger Ordinance. It is for compensating for high angle up or down shots.

I modified a Wheeler anti-cant level and mounted it to that. 

The scope rail comes with the rifle. In the picture I had extra risers added on as well. I stripped the anodizing of of them.

selling it so a Thomas or a sti-50 goes in the gun safe

Thanks for all the advice guys. I did have the opportunity to get out with some local field target guys and had a blast and was able to shoot a few guns including the Steyr. I realize there maybe others to try like the Thomas and Anschutz One, but I am hooked and shopping. Does anyone know who imports the Steyr Challenge? It seems like they are in short supply here in the states.

Hi!

I started shooting FT with a springer (TX200) and moved to PCP, shooting a USFT and moving to a Steyr, winning multiple National titles with both platforms. 

My Steyr was a very accurate rifle, with a awesome trigger but it was plagued by POI issues for years. To make a long story short, this year I switched to a Thomas and it was the best decision I've made in FT! 

As accurate as my Steyr, with a better trigger (IMO) but more importantly, it is stone cold stable! Shot it in snow...shot it in 95f heat...zero shift! Mine is set to WFTF power levesl (12ftlbs) but can be switched to 20ftlbs in seconds! And the builder is only a phone/text away from answering your questions/concerns! Try calling "Jimmy Steyr" and see where that goes! 

That's my two cents. If you can, get to a match and try some rifles out. FT shooters are only too willing to let you try their equipment!

Most any of these rifles are capable of winning performance. It's up to you to make them shoot. It's the Indian, not the arrow. Steyr, AA, RAW, Daystate, FWB, Thomas are equally accurate in the right hands. Sometimes the ergonomics might make a difference for you. IMO, you don't need a $4000 gun unless you feel necessary and money is no object. I went through 5 Anschutz rimfires and got rid of them all because they didn't work for me despite their reputation. Are you prepared to wait 4-6 months for it? Get a good rifle now and enjoy the sport. Air rifles maintain their value pretty well, so if you decide on a different one down the road, you can sell it to another person that will enjoy it.

Why do all the Thomas guys always feel it is necessary to bash everyone else? I've posted twice on this forum and once on another and all the threads have been taken over by a Thomas guy. I actually looked at them hard, but the hard sell from the owners was a big turn off. I'm sure they are all nice guys and are just passionate about the platform, but it doesn't sell the brand to rip on less expensive platforms. I can buy a Bugatti, but my Toyota Tundra gets me to work just fine and it can tow a boat.

You're quoting me so I'm guessing you're accusing me of "bashing you"? You asked the opinions of the FT shooters on here about rifles. I reread every post and there is not one single Thomas owner giving you a hard time. Everyone took the time to give you their actual hands on experience it seems to me? I just gave you my personal opinion. I have both rifles and I thought I was being honest and fair? Please point out in my post to you where I "bashed" you? Or "bashed the Steyr?

No doubt probably something got lost in, as you said, "translation". But I think it's cheap to come here and ask opinions, which many people took the time to give, and then complain that he "feels" bashed because perhaps those opinions didn't mirror his. If he wants a Steyr, more power to him. It's great rifle.

I have owned my Thomas FT for about 3 years now, and owned a Styer I had AZ tune about 8 years ago. I agree with most of the opinions about the Styers and Thomas rifles. A good shooter can do well with either of them. However, getting them right set up for the environment factors can easily end up costing $000 for the right scope. Learning to shoot them in the wind is another factor. You will need to hold off in the wind with any airgun that I have ever owned, and although I have only been playing the FT game about 15 years now I have owned quite a few on the top airguns. You can get good ones and bad ones of each kind but do feel the Thomas is the most reliable I have owned, but saying that I have had leaking problems with mine and still loose 800 to 1000 psi overnight. It still shoots great and there is many things I really like about 0116. My biggest issue is the fact it doesn't come with a pressure guage. 

Mike Nische is a good guy that I like very much. He has worked on my Thomas at the Cajun's Classic a couple years ago and managed to stop the leak for a few months. Later that fall at the Airgunners of Arizona Club Championship up near Flagstaff he helped me out again at no cost. It is nice to be able to e-mail or call him and get a response soon after. So there is nothing to not like about Mike. 

These comments are not meant to knock any airgun, dealer, or manufacturer. Only my own personal experience, and since I joined the Social Security Gang a few years back my money tree is not bearing fruit like it use to or I would have another Thomas on order. Only attended two shoots last year and if we can get back to it in 2021 I just may be playing with a springer. Word on the Streets is if you can shoot a Springer well you can shoot anything. So I'll be following Steve English very closely when we evah get back at it.

A Steyr can do the job well, though to me they are not as bulletproof reliable as some other guns. Actually, any decent shooting gun that fits, or can be easily adjusted to fit you comfortably in the various FT shooting positions can work ok. The accuracy capability requirement isn't much problem for many well known guns as most matches don't require more than around 1.5moa anywhere on the range. If the gun holds zero well, and can last a long time between rebuilds, it can likely be competitive in most FT matches.

I rank reliability no 1, then ability to get comfortable on aim, then non-sensitive poi, then intrinsic accuracy, and also a decent trigger pull that's well under a pound.

Ohh ... another thing .... many new shooters learn the game more quickly by starting with a decent springer from Air Arms, HW, or Walther. Some never switch to pcp.

I own two Steyrs. One is set up for 12 foot, one and set up for 20 foot. I bought them both used. They are both extremely accurate. I’m putting a picture of one of them in to make a point. Look at all the gadgets on it. You’ve got a front rest, it’s custom. The one that came with the rifle was not satisfactory. Look at the butt hook, again it didn’t come with the rifle. I’m sure I have an extra 600 X in those two items.

If you can find a rifle used, that’s already set up with the accessories, you can save yourself a lot of dollars. Usually I see them for around half price compared to new. You do need to be patient, however I bet you could easily find one in two months. You could also post online that you’re looking for one.

Buying one with a scope that’s all set up would also be highly recommended if you trust the seller. All those guys who are buying New rifles are retiring something else.

If I had a magic wand I would probably have one of Mike Ns rifles here tomorrow, It doesn’t sound like that’s an option for you, So I would suggest you keep your eyes and ears open for a deal.
