New to pcp first 9L tank fill, GX CS4

New to pcp air rifles. This is my first fill of my 9L tank using my new GX CS4. My question is how long does it take before the tank gauge starts to show pressure? Anything or secrets I need to know about this setup?

I only have a small tank, but it does seem that the first 1000PSI takes the longest to build from empty. I would let it run an hour. You're not going to hurt the compressor. Set a timer. First couple times I filled my bottle I felt there was a problem, but it just took more time than expected to get that initial 1000ish PSI.

Here are a couple gizmos that I use which make life easy filling. The first is a one way valve which when you use you’ll wonder how you did without. you connect the female end to your large tank you’re going to fill. open the valve on the tank. The check valve won’t allow the air to escape. Once you connect the compressor to the male side and start running it it’ll overcome tank pressure and the valve will open. This protects the compressor from tank pressure. don’t use this on a gun (ask me how I know.)

Another thing to consider is a desiccant filter. This one I use myself just double up on the burst disc mine kept blowing.

I need to remember this when I get a tank.
 
Just filled the very same today, due to a change of tank valve.

First bleed 200 BAR = helluva cold valve and tank :)

After i had done som other things the tank ( placed upside down with old valve removed ) had returned to a sort of normal 20 deg C and so i put in the new valve and went to my compressor.
Filling for a while i was WTF ????? but the tank was filling alright, just took a little while to get gauge on compressor and tank to show anything

Mind you i am filling from a 4 cylinder 90 L / h compressor, but all in all i think the fill only took 30 - 40 minutes or so, forgot to time it but i have entered 45 min in the compressor log.

It would be interesting to know how much the tank weighed empty then full. Back when I used to scuba dive a lot, you could tell the full tanks from the used ones by picking them up. It’s amazing how much volume they hold, so I’d think filling one of those from empty should take a while. Also, ditto on the desiccant filter, you need extra filtration for sure.
 
I have an old and perfect 30 gallon compressor tank. I'm thinkin I can fill it to 100 PSI with my dry clean shop air rather than plumbing to my El Cheapo as it would be simpler. Just charge up the big tank every now and again to feed El Cheapo. I'll set it up temporarily and see what kind of run time that tank will support, I think it will work well and save drilling through walls. 30 gallons at 100 should support 6-8 PSI output for several hours. I already have all the pieces to do so.

You need to figure in VOLUME of air
 
Yes, of course I understand that fully. We shall see how it's does. The volume of the air receiver is finite. However the volume of air is a variable based on the air pressure contained within the air receiver. 102 PSI in the air receiver is 7 atmospheres. Thus we have 20 X 7 or 140 gallons of air at 14.7 PSI. The unknown variable is the volume of atmospheric air the pump compresses. I will likely do the plumbing, my nearby bench could use air as well. Beats stringing the air hose from garage to basement. Greatly enjoying absolutely bone dry clean air.
