Other New to PCPs

At the top of your price range, but I'd say the Notos. Has been very accurate for me out of the box, and has to be my best sub $300 pcp. It's very quiet and backyard friendly. I don't hand pump, I have a cheap Amazon compressor, but would think the Notos would be pretty pump friendly, plus it's regulated. It's compact and light too. I like it so much in stock form that I'm thinking of getting a second one for a bottle build, instead of just building my current one.
yup. easy mods for 800 fps with 17.5g nsa

Pinty? There is talk on here recently.
I had a moment of weakness last night when going thru what new gun to get and looking at used higher end guns, and something turned me to come across the pinty again. Well the rabbit hole struck again. Ordered a pinty and Zelos instead of what I was after initially researching 😆 I've been eyeing the Zelos, but the Pinty was more of a "Let's see how this goes" feeling.

Of the options you listed, I only have experience with the Stoeger. But that would work fine for your intended purpose. It's accurate enough, reliable, hand pump friendly, and cheap. If you're just looking for a pest control tool and not looking to go down the PCP rabbit hole, it's not a bad option.

I've had the Benjamin Marauder Pistol (also comes with a carbine stock), also referred to as the P-Rod. It can be hand pumped, mine got around 700+- fps, 22 Cal., Is accurate and I felt would be good on ground squirrels to around 30 to 35 yards max. Can be had at Airgun Revisions for $369.

Also had a Umarex Notos, Same as the P-Rod; It can be hand pumped, as I recall mine got around 700+- fps, 22 Cal., Is accurate and I felt would be good on ground squirrels to around 30 to 35 yards max. Can be had at Pyramyd Air for $260, free shipping and presently $25 off (with code SNOWY25).

These are both handy, light weight, magazine fed, carbines.

Both are fairly quiet... While the Benjamin 'Discovery' mentioned above will need a moderator for both your hearing and to not spook all of the vermin or the neighbors, But it is more powerful than the above two carbines.

Both will require the purchase of an air supply or hand pump, and of course scope and rings.

I will send some pics when it arrives. Just realized when reviewing it that I ordered the single shot version. Going to reach out and see if they can change it for one of the magazine versions if its not too late. Not sure if they process orders over the weekend, as I placed the order late Friday night. Don't know how I overlooked that 🤦🏻‍♂️

It is your opportunity to expand your pellets gun horizons! Buy all 3!

If you're just looking for a pest control tool and not looking to go down the PCP rabbit hole......
You hit the nail on the head, I am looking for a tool here. If i were shopping for something fun I would save up and get something with a wood stock as that is what I enjoy.

A bit a clarification, I know a pump and scope will cost more, I want to keep the gun to $250 so that I can stay roughly inline with my $350ISH budget.

I had not heard of the Notos, so thanks to all of you suggesting it. This seems to fit what I need, small, light, accurate, and almost at my budget. I don't care for the pistol grip style too much, but this is about rat elimination, not about what I think looks good.

Thanks all for the help, ill be ordering this in a few minutes here.

I'm a fan of a more traditional wood stock myself. The Notos changed that for me with PCP's. Really light and easy to shoot offhand, plus backyard friendly. Will have enough power, accuracy, and agility to dispatch those problem rats from short or longer distances alike with a decent scope.

You're on the right track. Mine shoots these cheap pellets pretty well for backyard fun.

473G...,

You may have already ordered, but if not there's a "PYRAMYD-NRA" coupon code code for $26 off, that is presently working... don't know if the snowy25 code is still working or not.

I used the snowy25 coupon and it worked. Thanks all, I'll let you know what I think once I get a few shots down range.

Hello AGN, it seems like this is the most active place to discuss PCP and airguns so I have come here for some advice.

I am considering getting one of the listed PCPs: Gamo Arrow, Diana Stormrider, Beeman Commander, Stoger XM1.

My primary use will be to shoot rats in my suburban back yard. They have learned what traps, so I need a different way to remove them.

As you can tell from the listed guns I am looking for cheap, these are pretty much all the least expensive while still somewhat decent PCPs (for my intended purpose) you can purchase. I don't have enough time to go out target shooting, thus im not willing to invest lots of capital in this project.

Ideal PCP would be first and foremost QUIET. I picked up a crosman vantage plus break barrel locally and tried it out, then returned it. The action was much louder than the pellet hitting my target. While most of my neighbors probably wont care, they don't need to know what im up to in my own yard, so Quiet is the most important feature im looking for.

Ideally this is what im looking for, in order of importance.
QUIET
0.22
$200-$250 ish or cheaper
Hand pumpable, no big tanks
reasonable accuracy

Hopefully some of you have first hand experience using some of the above listed PCPs and can comment on how loud they are. This seems to be the hardest thing to determine from reading reviews and watching youtube videos. Yes, choosing the proper ammo can make a difference.

I am also open to other options as long as they are easily purchased.
A bit of background, I am comfortable with firearms, own a few, and have gone through one of the Jr. rifle target programs when younger.
As far as air guns, I have a pump BB gun from my youth that will not end a rat, so we need something with more power.
Thanks for your comments on this topic!
Maybe try wadcutter / flat nose target pellets and head shots with your gun ?

Good luck, Notos should work for your application. If it doesn't, get your 10 posts and 10 days, put it on the classifieds and try something else.

-- Matt
If it doesn't work for your application the above.

However, if it has issues, leaks, accuracy issues, etc... you have, I believe 30 days to return it to Pyramyd Air. If the gun has issues they will provide return postage.

Years ago I used to keep my horse at a small stable and the owner and I used to shoot rats around the place. He had an old beat up Crosman 140 pump up rifle in .22cal that was a killer on rats. A couple of pumps and no more rat. It was also very quiet. I have seen them on ebay and other places for under $200. in good condition.

The Notos is made by SPA like my 3 P35s and the one Bullshark I tested. 3 of the 4 prefer H&N pellets to JSBs. The two 22s like 21 grain Baracudas. But I would at least test FTTs (14.66 grains). They seem more consistent with the Notos power. My Prod loves the copper plated FTTs. I would also test Crosmans. I am leery of their consistency after bad experience with the 177s but the Prod likes them almost as well and the P35-177 liked the one good tin I had fine.

If you need a scope the Hawke Vantage 2-7 is inexpensive, light, and pretty short. The one on my Prod works great.
