New to site and sport, I do a lot of offhand practice with .22s for hunting, but don't currently have a safe place to shoot at home, so considering picking up an airgun. I have my eye on some particular models and will post in classified section when able.

FX dreamline classic or streamline in .177 or .22. The stock shape and weight that is close to my centerfire hunting rifles are what catches my eye. I've shot Izhmash biathlon rifles a fair bit, and like the near identical toggle bolt action. The big ole mag and scope position is my only hesitation. Unfortunately where i live it's not possible to try before you buy. Ranges under 100yds, don't forsee any hunting.

I had a Dreamline Classic in .25 for 3 years. It was a great gun that had not a single malfunction or leak in the years I had it. My only gripe with that gun was that the barrel was a bit wimbly nimbly so if it got bumped even slightly on something it would throw my zero off a hair. Leaning it up against a tree by the barrel was out of the question completely haha.
That being said I used that gun to take more squirrels than I can counts, a few dozen groundhogs, and three chicken stealin' fox while I had it. If I could go back in time I likely would have spent a bit more and gone with the Crown. A bit more power, still a great size, and the larger bottle and shot count would have been nice to have. I could have bottled the Dreamline but I'm a huge fan of the classic rifle look myself and didn't want to kill the aesthetics.

I have a buddy who has a Dreamline Tactical with the bottle and he added the power plenum to it. Power wise it is very close to my Crown MK2. He shoots NSA slugs and pellets and it does great with both. I am very happy with my Crown MK2 as well. If that is on your list then I will say that it is a great rifle too.

Whatever you decide, buy a suppressor for it. I put a buck rail suppressor on the Gauntlet and it's really quiet and don't have to worry about neighbors.

If you like the Dreamline, check out the Air Arms S510 series. Fantastic guns in .177 and .22. Come with a better out of the box tune than the FX guns and are substantivally more durable.

I agree the AA 400/500 series is a really solid reliable rifle. The HW100 is another rock solid platform.

What are the main durability issues with FX Dreamline for target use, but not delicate use?
For over a grand new i guess i expected a gun I can lean in a corner against the barrel without changing POI, but i'm also not going to drag it through the brush. I had assumed a barrel band would tighten up the known poor interface enough? Or are there other common issues?
How much do I care about tuning if I am not looking for micro groups, or max efficiency? 1" at 50 yds under ideal benchrest conditions would be plenty accurate, but am looking for something i can pick up a handful of times a day, shoot one magazine at small steel targets offhand and know that misses were on me and not because of a wandering POI. I do like good triggers and well finished parts.

Don’t overlook the airforce airguns. I have owned a Talon SS since shortly after they came out. Very accurate and no problems
