Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and to air gunning. I have gamo whisper silent cat (I know, it’s a cheap bastard gun) but not a bad first pellet rifle. I shoot targets and pests and I just got my UTG bug buster 3-12 this week and I can’t wait for tomorrow (Friday/Saturday are my days off) I’ve never used a scope with the windage/elevation knobs so I’ll be learning something this weekend. I’ve read some posts and everyone seems to have a PCP and I’m sure I’ll get one someday but my break barrel is getting it done for now. I know I’ll learn a lot here and hopefully make some friends, thank you

Welcome to the madness. One suggestion, RUN run now while you can. Its a crazy fun rabbit hole and easy to dive deeply into it.

I got the same gamo rifle 5 years ago because I heard it was quiet and wanted something to use should I need to. I was disappointed. Then in August I saw an article about modern rifles. I attended my first field target match to watch. I was handed a rifle and told I was participating. Needless to say, I was totally hooked. 3 high end rifles (soon to be a 4th or 5th) later and I'm still amazed. Its a wonderful rabbit hole to go down at times.

Shoot what you enjoy shooting. Find what you enjoy doing. Dont let anyone look down on ya if you are doing it responsibly.

Meh 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve wasted money on worse things 😉 quiet is a relative term, if my decibel meter on my phone is accurate, it’s 85db when it leaves my gym (I set it by the roll up door) not terribly loud but not “silent” by any stretch. I still use ear plugs just in case. I was looking at the Hatsan invader as an upgrade, any experience with that brand?

There are many here that refuse to buy anything from turkey, spain, and very little from china as they often have low quality and often very poor support. After doing my research I'll likely do the same as you get what you pay for.

The brits and germans make some quality rifles too. in fact i have 2 daystates and one brk so far and adding more. Ill likely add a springer either a tx200 or hw97.

Watch youtube vids with a grain of salt as many are little more than infomercials. Often times they have to sign agreements not to say anything negative to get a gun to test. Usually those purchasing their own equipment tend to be reliable. You can usually tell the difference and theres a few channels I follow because they have no problems addressing the negative aspects.

First, enjoy what you have! If you become interested in different guns it will be good to know what exactly you are looking for. Once you know what you most want to change you can set a direction.

You might find yourself seeking...
a little more power if you are going to hunt.
less power if you are going to shoot indoors.
less felt recoil.
a better trigger.
better accuracy.
Improved ergonomics.
more adjustability.
different looks. (fancy walnut vs all metal chassis etc.)

It can be a little like your first car.

Let us know what you are most and least enjoying and we're here to help.

Depending on where you live there may be members near you who are happy to let you try some other guns as well.

welcome to the best AGN . This is truly a fun place . Pace your self or your credit card's will be maxed out hahahaha
Personally i would suggest, when your ready , get an top line springer , master that . Then look into PCP .

Some foreign made guns are at the premium mark, For example just look at this German made springer.

I too started with a gamo whisper years ago initially for rats. Hopefully your transition from Johnny Breakbarrel to PCP Johnny is a bit slower than mine was. To make your transition slower I would recommend the Umaex Notos/ PP750 as a good transition gun.

Those are beautiful, I should have specified when I said “foreign” I meant “crappy foreign” not “Swiss watch/Mercedes Benz foreign” I’m 100% onboard with a German or Swiss made air rifle

Yes sir.
I figured that those people only had airguns to shoot, while a majority of Americans figured them as toys after the war.
