Thanks Strever, as you well know easy to do when conditions are easy!, my problem is reading the wind?, especially head and tail wind..., this is first official target I've shot with this rifle, very pleased to say the least

Head and tail winds can be tricky for sure. I try to wait for them to come from the left or right, if I can. The one piece of advice I've received from both top bench rest and field target shooters is to pic the wind you know at all times possible. I'm still a bit impatient but am learning.

Yes, I must admit I'm impatient also!, I will get better?, Practice,practice, practice!, I have a question (maybe I should know this?) Has anybody experienced point of impact change when leaving a pellet in the chamber and gun cocked waiting for a favorable condition change, then only to have change in impact point from previous shots taken in same condition! ( Reg. or Barrel temp.?) I know this can be a issue w/center fire shooters but didn't think it would be for Pcp guns?

Something I see in your picture, those pellets in little hard plastic bottles... Be careful with that, I used to keep my sorted pellets in hard plastic cases, until I noticed that it didn't take much sloshing around in one of those for the tails to get deformed and the heads dented. I'm a lot more careful after sorting out close to 400 pellets that got trashed driving to the range when I had to slam on the brakes sending them flying in the back of the car... I got maybe a dozen that didn't get damaged.
More wind flags! You need information all along the flight path, especially up close. Think about it for a second, which has more impact on the POI, a 5mph cross wind at 5yards or a 5mph cross wind at 25y?
Shoot and shoot some more. Use your sighters as truth sources. As good as wind flags are they rarely tell the whole story, they suck are showing up/down currents, are confusing when the wind swirls. You have to combine the experiences of shooting in a lot of varied conditions with a lot of time management, being able to wait. It's important to be able to throw a lot of pellets down range quickly when the wind is favorable. At the end of the match the winner will be the one that had the most experience with the wind conditions and managed their shoots the best. Everyone has their gun prep, pellet prep secret source but no one to date has anything that truly stands way out.
Thanks for the tips Percula, I'm learning I plan to purchase more flags plus wind probe, the one thing your not seeing from these pics. Is that my shooting lane is actually up on a little bit of a plateau, the yard drops away about 7ft. To the left or west, (Walk out basement) this can create alot of swirl and down-up drafts if wind is coming from west, and I don't always see this! (Shows up on target though!) also know what u mean on hard storage containers!, just learned the hard way!!!

So True that reading the wind is probably one of the most important things to learn for accurate bench rest shooting
and flags tell us the most about wind so having good flags is important and it seems they are getting more expensive every day

nomojo65, nice card at 31 yards! Would second what John said about staying away from head on and behind winds if you can. And yes, patience, patience.

Thanks guy's, all good info!, I planned on shooting much more this summer in actual competitions than I was able!,( life got in the way... ), I know this will shorten the learning curve substantially, plus this was the original plan when I purchased these fine rifles, It will happen!

oh what a pain the wind is. I'm shooting a 177 raw bm500 out to 125 yards currently and any lil puff and there it goes.

125 is a long ways. 150 and the hold offs almost double in just those 25 yds. It took me a while but I was able to crack open the agd golf ball at 150. 15gr pellets and time were the key.

Shot these three cards today. RAW TM1000 in Bench Rest stock. Sightron 10-50 x60 scope. JSB 16gr pellets. Winds were 3-5mph mostly from behind and right, but switching at times. Hadn't dropped a point going into the last card, but a flier bit me. Best outdoor three card score to date. 749 42x.

I believe when I have the hammer spring set all the way in (which it was), the FPE is right around 20 FPE. So that's about 745 FPS. Like those wind flags. Interesting to mimic the sail of a boat. Where did you get them?

Finally had a calm day for a change. Grabbed the ol' Thomas and got out the bucket and sticks this morning and had a really good go of it. Happy with everything out to 55 yds. Piddled around with my pups a little , then noticed it was so calm that I maybe I should try a bench rest card? Aired the Thomas up to 3000 psi and let it fall back to what ever psi it fell back to?
Put the first card up at my zero distance for FT which is 28 yds. Just a hair over the 25 meter mark for Bench rest. Shot a 247 with 14x's. Not too shabby for my first BR card in almost a year. Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm shooting off my picnic table with front bipod attached to the gun and rear bag, and I'm shooting straight from the tin.
So, I sit there and start thinkin'? Let me find that pellet sizer. So I sized my 13.4 gr JSB Monsters to 4.53 mm this time around. I noticed they would run a little faster under the chrony. The unsized were running a little under 820 and the sized just a hair over 820 fps. Well wouldn't you know it I shot another 247 but only 13 x's this time. I would say it's pretty consistent either way? They were straight out of the tin, but I sized them as I shot them.
My nerves are about shot by then, but I decide to shoot a 3rd card. I didn't clean the barrel, and I didn't fill with air. This is all three cards on one fill. I decided not to size these and go back to straight out of the tin. I took one sighter and bam.....did I just miss the 10 ring on the first shot??? WTF?? I dunno...it's close? So I proceed to shoot the rest of the card. Now I've got 3 questionable shots. 1, 16, & 22???
So I whip out my trusty .22 cal scoring gauge and wow, it touched the 10 ring on those 3 shots! I'll take it. My second 250 score ever. But I only managed 9 x's this time. Who'd a thunk it, I didn't even think I had enough left in me for a 3rd card! LOL
And a good day was had by all.....meaning me and the pups ;-)
