New Years Resolution -- I will check and dress my pellet skirts.

I was pulling JSB 15.9 gr pellets out of the tin this evening and shooting at various ranges. Groups were disappointing and not what I remembered from the rifle since the last time I had it out. I moved the target in to my near zero range because wind was beating me up out at 41 yards. When I shot the group on the left I said to myself, "That just ain't right. Where is that pellet seater that I bought from Beeman back around '92?" I got it out and pulled 10 pellets at random out of the tin. I pressed each one against the little ball on the pellet seat and gave it a twist to make sure the skirt wasn't out of round. Then I shot the middle group. Did the same thing again and shot the right group. I pulled (and called) one shot left in the last group.

Makes a difference...



Not bad for a 20 fpe springer.
RWS Diana 48, JSB 15.9 gr. .22 shooting ~750 fps

Hey Mr. Spook, could you post a photo of your pellet seater? What distance were those groups shot at?

Those JSB 15.89 Gr are really soft, I can see how fixing the skirts would help.

Interesting.......I never had results that good with the Beeman pellseat.....Are you also pushing the pellet into the breech a bit further with the tool or just inserting the pellet with your finger after addressing the skirt? Maybe I should dig out the old bugger and give another go at it.

Like the mercury head dimes. They are one of my favorite metal detecting finds.

Yeah, the dimes are pretty.

All I did was use the ball on the tool to correct skirt roundness. That whole tin seems to need it. Probably rough handling on my part. I finger seat the pellets on all my guns.

Too expensive. Find a small ball bearing or a marble. All you use it for is to correct the roundness of the skirt. A 3/8" ball bearing is perfect.

After I started this thread I ran over mine with the lawn mower... Aw, well, as I said, a 3/8" ball bearing is perfect for the job.
