Newbie. How far will a pellet go?

22Lr hunter here.

Lately I've been hunting some state parks and property with lots of houses around.

Naturally I'm responsible for what my 22 does if I miss. Maybe up to a mile or so.

So I made the decision to buy a Springer, probably an Air 200.

So how far will a pellet go if I'm shooting approximately 45 degrees in the air and miss a squirrel? And let's say I'm shootin level, the guns at 5 foot or so on my shoulder. How far do you think it will go?

And in both cases how far before I'm out of the danger zone? Appreciate any input
 
Air Gun show enthusiast shot at and hit a man size target (well, actually a 4x8 sheetrock with a 2" target)--at 200 meters. The target exploded when hit. The rifle was only elevated about 25-30 degrees. So, if a 30 degree elevation will propel a .177 pellet (not slug) 200 meters, I'm with YO--over 200m for sure.My booklet states just over 400 yards for distance. OTOH, I don't expect bodily or structural damage that far, unless it's a vunerable location. Hurt, perhaps; penetration or breaking glass (over 200 yards), I don't think so. That's not encouragement to try or shoot irresponsibly!



We must be safe and careful, lest we forfeit this pleasurable home hobby.

"Springer" is very vague to say the least, they range from .177 and say 7 grains to 30 cal and some 50 grains. From sub 12 to 30+fpe if modified. 3 of us were shooting at a golf ball at 105 yards with sub 12 to about 14fpe rifles it required about 2-3 feet of hold over when sighted in for +- 40 yards. So at a 45 degrees yeah a few hundred yards is easy. As to what energy it may have check out Chairgun or Strelok for specific information about distance, projectile, fpe, fps...

Careful shooting golf balls at 100 yards the ricochet can come right back at you and can really hurt!!! Use DEAD (non-bouncy) golf balls to be safe. Yo!

218 yards is extremely impressive! I don’t think I could pull that off. I had a similar size target at about 115 yards my step dad was using with his 308win and before we left I took a stab at it with a Gamo accu 177 and was on target. I can’t remember what I was shooting but knowing me most likely CP box 7.9 or 10.5. I shot 3 times and all three were on target. I can’t remember how large the “group” was but I know I was impressed. Maybe a 2-3 feet but I really dont remember.
