Newbie Introduction

Glad to hear you went! And so glad that you feel it was worth the time and I do not have to reimburse you for fuel costs .

Now the ranchero I've used and seen at many shoots but did you get to use a brocock ?

I only purchase used scopes face to face, not sure about the athlon ( rather new ) but I'll bet someone in your group has an outstanding out of date quality scope. The 4200 is a standard that is hard to beat, front A/O but great glass.

Continue to show restraint while shopping it does pay off.

Please keep us all updated on whatca get , how dull FT is , why you will never need two airguns, & all that.

John,

I shot a Brocock Compatto. Loved it! It had an Athlon scope, but I didn’t catch which model (it was a side focus). There aren’t a lot of used Brococks around—I found a Contour, but it’s not regulated, so I’m inclined to buy new.

I’m also inclined to buy a new scope, but I haven’t caved yet.

The Daystate Air Wolf was amazing, but I can’t see spending that kind of money, plus I’m skeptical of the electronic reliability. It also had amazing glass (no idea what—I was too focused on hitting 8/10 quarter-sized targets at 25 yards)

The red dot sight on the FX Ranchero pistol was amazing. I was good at 20 yards, the owner was hitting pretty good percentage standing at 40 yards.

Regards,

Evan

ACH, if you're anything like me, you will evolve quickly in your knowledge of airguns. And intenseaty is right; you will need intervention and rehab if you go down airgun road! I'm totally addicted. I started out with a P-rod (Benjamin Marauder .22 pistol configured as a carbine). I had a blast! However, I eventually got tired of flyers (the Marauder is not regulated) and craved more power. I then moved on to the electronically-regulated Daystate Pulsar .25. Even more of a blast! (and flyers no more ;-)). Still, I craved even more power. Then came the FX Impact .30. Awesome. Then, you guessed it, even more power! This was a bridge too far. Even though I was strictly a small game hunter, I bought a RAW HMx .357 (130 ft-lbf). I immediately realized that this was way too much gun for the task. I mean, doves were literally vaporizing! I mean, you can legally hunt black bear in Arizona with this beast! Further, the weight, girth, and length of the rifle; and the gear needed to tote it around out in the field was prohibitive for me. (I am a small game hunter, which involves a lot of hiking.) But, I guess sometimes you don't know where the line is until you cross it.

Now, I'm exactly were I need to be. I have an FX Wildcat .25 MKI synthetic stock with a DonnyFL SUMO moderator. I can tote my beauty around all day and she has plenty of power for any small game out to 100 yards and beyond. Plus, she is the most reliably accurate rifle I have ever shot (including firearms). The bunnies don't stand a chance!

Of course, you'll have to make your own way down this road. There are so many flavors from which to choose, and each person has his/her own tastes. But rest assured, you are in the right place. Michael (and Ted) have set-up the best airgun forum going. The members here possess a broad and deep skill set, and they are more than willing to help you out with any issue you may have re airguns :). Welcome!
