Newbie Maverick Help

Reaching out on here to see if others can shed some light and give me some insight...

I recently purchased a new FX maverick Sniper configuration .25cal and have a question about my regulator pressures. I tried to do a tune on the regs of 95/70 after watching Steve's tuning video. I was able to achieve the first reg pressure of 95. However, when I turned in my second reg and degassed and regassed the gun, the smallest turn i could make on the 2nd reg adjuster brought my pressure up to about 85 bar. And when I say small adjustment I mean a hair turn. Getting frustrated after multiple attempts to get this tune i decided to go with a tune of 130/100. I noticed that after achieving this pressure, throughout the day, my reg pressure wound up reading 105. I'm wondering why I'm unable to achieve a second reg pressure below 80 and why I'm experiencing an increase in my second reg pressure throughout the day. I also haven't been able to hear my plenum fill after shots like in a lot of the tuning videos in the forums. From what I can tell, it seems as though the gun is acting differently from most. I'll also add my power wheel adjuster is set at 4. I'm no engineer and this is all new to me. I also set up the fx chronograph and my velocities seem to differ quite a bit. I give the gun time to adjust after each shot, but not being able to hear the plenum refill has me wondering what might be happening or if something is wrong. FX support states to contact the dealer support first so I did but thought I'd reach out on here to see if what I'm experiencing is normal or what I can try. I'm shooting only 26.54g JSB Hades Diablo pellets. One last question, I haven't checked to see which port, pellet or slug, is engaged. Which side needs to be oriented in which way to shoot pellets? Thankful for any help.

So, if I understand correctly, you turned in the second reg and then degassed the gun? If this is so, you possibly damaged the reg. Degas the gun then turn the reg in and back it out 1/4 to 1/2 turn and start there. Mine usually shows around 50 to 70 bar doing this.

I have the .25 Sniper too, lets walk through this together. My lowest back reg pressure is 34 bar. Off to church, talk in a bit.

No, second reg was still turned out when degassing. Air flowed out very quickly. Took in, regassed and slight turn would yield bat lower than 85 even with less than a quarter turn. Thanks for letting me know yours can read a lower bar when doing it. Most guys always seem to go well above a hundred on their second reg so I wasn't able to see if they could actually achieve less bar if desired.

Busy day for me too. Just left church and have to visit the wife's family... that's crazy you can get your back reg that low... lowest I could achieve was about 85. When I first took the advice of backing it out a quarter turn, my bar would shoot up to over 100.

Define shot count, I mean are you looking for 60, 80, 100, 150? I'm getting over 75ish with 33.95's, more with lighter slugs (RMR 26gr) and pellets, with a simple twist of the HSA and a SD of 2 all the way along. Oh this is a .25 VP, no probes, ports , hammer weights, polishing, springs....blah blah blah. You don't say if you have a digital gauge or not, that is a must for accuracy, get a cheapie off of Amazon, and a bunch of batteries, be careful of the x-ring under it, a touch of lube and it doesn't need to be tight, just sealed.

This is what works for me. I keep changing it and it always comes back to this one.

.25. VP. 4/8/25
#2 105/108 bar

Hammer Macro 21.44/.8445”

RMR SLUGS. 26gr. #5. 944fps
JSB. 25.39. #3.
JSB 33.95. # 7. 886 fps. 59 ft #

FYI, tiny tiny tiny movements on the reg and the Hammer Macro(the spring adjuster under the wheel) ALWAYS make this adjustment uncocked will give you the numbers. I can get mine down to 70 but the pellets fall out of the barrel. When backing out #2, fire and twist, this does relieve some of the pressure on the mating surfaces for a few seconds.

Attached is what I was trying to achieve. It's just what I thought I'd try for the good results i saw Steve S. from AEAC post. I don't need to do it but it was concern that when trying, I wasn't able to. That's what had me worried somet was wrong with the reg. And the fact I'm not hearing the plenum refill as in most videos I watch. Those two things had me concerned. Thanks for those numbers! Sounds like you have yourself a shooter! I did invest in the digital gauge because getting numbers on the stock gauge was a joke. That's how I know for certain the numbers I'm reading at plus or minus 1 percent. Appreciate the tips man!

I may also mention that when watching my digital gauge when taking a shot, it will drop from 99 to like 97 and go back up to around 98 after 3 or so seconds.

That's because the second reg is reading plenum pressure and immediately after the shot a certain volume of air was exhausted thus lowering the plenum pressure slightly. Then the plenum refills and pressure returns to normal. I find it best to slow count to 10 between shots and ignore the second guage while shooting.

Not to hijack this thread but could the old timers with the maverick let me know if I can fit a larger tank on the compact maverick ?
Yes, but it will overhang the barrel. Here is my sniper version with 700 cc tank.

I'd bet you could go to 480 or 580 cc and get a long silencer to take muzzle out past end of tank?

Well, for starters I get bored after 5 mags so I stop counting. It's interesting that he's got his HSA down to zero, IMHO that leaves you zero room for adjustment, but that is a variable and the final adjustment, it makes a significant difference in the SD., again TINY adjustments. FX says 30/50 reg. difference, higher = faster fills, doesn't affect the final pressure on #2. As long as you didn't crank #2 in and damage the seating surfaces you should be ok. If you have a dial gauge you're wasting your time, they can be off by 10 bar. If @1 is somewhere in the ballpark for pressure, degas, just pop the bottle fire is a few times it'l leak down, fire a few more times and the plenum will go down. Screw in #2 gently back it out as Rich_B said, fire it a few times to seat the Bellville washers, then in tiny increments Say 1/8 turn back it out then fire a few time and let it settle in. I can get mine down to 70 but it doesn't work for me and the heavier pellets.

As long as you're running a skinny Mod go for it. I have a larger bottle (480) on mine, not a huge one but larger.

That's one thing I did not do. After turning in reg two, I did not try to fire it a few times before adjusting it out.

When he says HS @ 0 he is referring to 0 as wherever it was set from factory. He did not disassemble and measure as I see many guys do with the HS to know exactly where it's position really is. So him saying 0 is not very helpful as that fine adjustment could have been anywhere.
