Benjamin Newbie Picking Air Compressor

Budget for scope? Benjamin Trail NP XL .22 came with CenterPoint (Crosman's scope brand) 3-9x40AO, very impressed with quality/function for a bargain priced scope. Marcool 5.5-25x50, slightly more, but clarity blows me away. $250 plus range is Vector Veyron, own 7, need I say more? WM

Like most you're not in the multi-thousand-dollar compressor price range so here's what's popular mid-price. GX-CS series and Yong Heng utilize multiple cooling methods, avoid compressors using just one. GX-CS series use high-speed fans and lower gearing, GX-CS4 adds water cooling. Yong Heng uses water, fan and crankcase oil for cooling, loud, not portable, fills fast, around $250. Agree with jmohme, post compressor oil/moisture filters are essential. WM

Ok guys -- please provide me what kind of Oil moisture separator to buy? I do have a couple of small tanks of Nitrogen I use for A/C work but really think I just want to use a ? ? CS3-I compressor with an oil moisture separator? Needs to fit the B-mod.

Can you all help me here with your experience? I am a newbie.....Ken
Gramps - Cannot find your CS3 --

I run a gx cs2 compressor. It’s very similar to the one you are looking at. Just doesn’t have all the bells and whistles. It doesn’t have the built in power supply or auto shut off but the cs2 can be bought for under 250 (last I checked ) on gx pump official website. Internally it is the same as the cs3 and will fill at the exact same rate. Mine is going on two years old. I run two additional filters. This one https://www.pyramydair.com/product/air-venturi-compact-inline-filter?a=9038.

Then this one. https://a.co/d/47Rs01R

I connect the small silver to the larger gold filter. Turn both vertical and connect them to the gun. I will try to take a pic of my setup tomorrow. I basically bungee the two filters to a bench leg then set the gun up on the bench with the fill whip attached. Seems to work well. The filter cartridges that come with the large gold one are re usable. I emptied mine out and just put desiccant drying beads in the whole thing. The charcoal is unnecessary for pcp usage. You can find the desiccant on Amazon as well.

No, that's the only model not liked. Started with a 3-12x44 (30mm 1/10MIL) for $120 (Dvor closeout.) Shoot dime-size circles @ 50 yards and 12-power didn't cut it. Remaining six models, in FFP and SFP, are 6-24x44 (30mm 1/10MIL), as pictured on Uragan. Super sub-compact and lightweight, clarity and smooth functioning are unbelievable. Last few were from Krale (Netherlands) Optic Department. SFP 6-24x44 with IR (six red shade center dot) for $185, $211 to-my-door. Here's original 3-12x44 on latest PCP, Snowpeak M60B .35, with cantilever one-piece Marcool mount since super-subcompact size can affect proper eye distance. WM

Yong Heng has power and speed to handle the pressurization of post compressor oil/moisture filters, here's my Florida garage setup. Generally agreed the copper-colored water coalescing filter, by back wall, ($125 eBay) followed by gold molecular sieve ($60 eBay) filter is an effective combination. As you can imagine, the extra time needed to pressurize these two filters really increases the workload for any compressor, some smaller platforms will struggle. WM

Gramps mentioned "serviced" work on his GS CS3-I compressor at 10 hours Question

How much maintenance do you to on compressors and how often? Are we talking "oil" or it it more?
Since these sound very maintenance heavy, does GS provide parts?
Can you do the work yourself or do you send it back to factory?
I am not afraid of mechanical repairs - just would like to not "throw away " to replace like most common devices today --
Want to buy a compressor that is repairable.

Can you describe the maintenance repair cycle? Anyone have history here?

I hate buying Chinese, but the Vector Veyron is an excellent scope, especially for the price.

The CS3 is pretty easy service remove the head clean it with a little alcohol & the cylinder walls. Then put a thin layer of food silicone on the cylinder walls. Replace head. There’s also a valve on the bottom that you remove & clean & replace. How thing takes maybe 10 minutes or less. No need to send it back for service. You can get parts if needed from GPPump Official.

Here's a link on maintenance for the cs2 and cs3 . https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/greasing-the-piston-on-a-gx-cs3-cs2-compressor.1288625/

One member stated his cs2 lasted 3 years but also said he used it ti fill scuba tanks , beyond its intended use . I use mine to fill my airguns directly. So it should last at least 3 years. Plus I'm going to grease it yearly.
