Newbie Question Weinwrauch HW 44

Question. Im new to air guns and ive been looking into getting the hw 44 for some time now. Some people i see shooting this gun on youtube get a mich lower velocity than the advertised 690-700 fps. Closer to 525-550 fps. Is there a reason for this? Once more, im very new to air guns or guns in general.

Is there another model of this gun with a lower foot pound rating?

Well usually they say something like *max velocity

But that all depends on the type of air you are using, it’s temperature, and what pellet you are using. For example, my HW95 I think was advertised 740fps max, but it tends to shoot around 680fps with JSB Exacts.

You won’t be disappointed with HW though. And where they might have a spread of FPS, many manufactures are not even in the ballpark of their advertised FPS.

Weihrauch lists the gun available in only two power levels: FAC which is full power, and an "F" legal gun which is about 6fpe.

From the speed numbers you list, I think it may just be a variation in pellet weight. A 21gr will obviously shoot slower than a 14gr. I find it easier to compare energy rather than fps when talking about things like this because it isn't so dependent on pellet weight which can be the big unknown variable.

Either way, Weihrauch only makes two versions. Wide open 25joule for most markets, and restricted 7.5joule (5.5fpe) for UK and some Euro countries like Germany where it's made.

Maybe that helps.

Abe01, that’s a excellent choice for a pistol. They are incredibly accurate and plenty powerful. I have the .177 FAC, that I got from AOA. It was so incredible that when I saw a .22 for sale on the forum classifieds I bought it too. Both are very accurate and powerful. The .177 is faster and flatter shooting, the .22 hits harder and has more drop at over 25 yards. They have very good triggers too. These groups were shot at 25 yards off of bags and using a scope. And the gopher target is at 60 yards!! Headshots with a pistol. Remember though, it’s off of bags and using a rifle scope on the pistol...strange behavior I know, putting a rifle scope on a pistol and using it like a mini rifle, but I’m just having fun stretching out what the pistol is capable of! You won’t be disappointed with a HW44 in either caliber in my opinion.

My .22 HW44 shoots the 14.3 JSB @ 750+ fps so about 18fpe which is pretty good for a pistol with a barrel that is under 10 inches long. Groups are about an inch at fifty yards with the Hades pellets. Expect it will do better with the right pellet which I don't have at the moment.

We get mostly FAC guns, so the higher powered stuff, here in the USA. I would expect the lower FPS is to stay within the 6pe limit of some other countries. But as stated by others pellet weight, 11.75 to over 26gr in .22, can make a huge difference as well.
