Newbie to PCP

As LLeon pointed out, stick with a 22 since you are hand pumping. The difference in shot count between the two might seem marginal, but after hand pumping the tank back up a few times air starts to become precious. I even took the power down on my impact 22 to get a few more shots in per-fill, and I am 48, 230 lbs and pretty fit. If you are an 18 year old, then you’ll be fine hand pumping a .50. 😜

Well, I have a Hawke scope 3X7x32 on a a Hatsan FlashPup 22cal set at 7 and I just peppered the hell out my dinger at 67-68 yds out there with JSB 18.13,very well if I may say.I do like the AMX reticle BUT, you don't need the more expensive AMX line for a PCP. BUT!!! You can't get the AMX Reticle unless you buy the into the AMX series. 2cents is 2 cents

On a budget, Avenger is hard to beat as a learning platform. So much is adjustable so easily that if you have anything remotely within you of the tinkerer or serious hobbyist, I don't know if you could find a cheaper PLUS easier way to begin to play with settings to learn what the hobby is all about. Even more so because Steve at AEAC and AEAC Volg on youtube has given three prescriptions for an economy, a regular, and a high power tune for that rifle in.22, plus ammo choice results. Ted's Holdover did some ammo and accuracy tests too. So you can play on your own, dial into any of Steve's settings immediately and see what happens, or take it further into your own experimentation with a path well laid-out before you.

As to quality? It's early. Time will tell. Many love it but not everyone will, or does.

.25's do take a lot more air -- and trips to the pump or tank -- to get your shooting time in. This reduces joy. Up to you.

There are enough videos out now of people liking and testing the Avenger out in .22 and .25 that you can be assured that either should be fine. So at this point it's what appeals to you and meets your needs.

I do want to mention, though, that pumping gets tiresome FAST. If only because it saps precious time from your fun-sessions. Or hunting opportunities, whatever. Even between .22 and .25, that can make a difference. And the Avenger's air cylinder is substantial.

Budget scopes? Look at them on Pyramid. Tons of them with tons of reviews. An old reliable are the UTG/Leapers "bug busters." You won't see many swearing by them here, but we have a lot of folks not into budget items here. There is nothing wrong with starting on a budget and only working your way up when and if and how you want to. Smartest option as often as not.

Since you are ocassional shooter then something simple such as a 22 Benjamin Maximus Hunter for $164.99 from Crosman Direct with 25% off AGNATION discount code and free shipping when ordering Friday morning. Already comes with a scope and mounts. Add a TKO silencer if you need quiet $78.00 or $92.00 for the fatter 1" if quietest is important. They are super light weight and works.

You may opt for a Crosman Challenger match grade trigger group with trigger guard for around $60 direct from Crosman too if you want a very nice light trigger later and just need to shim it with a credit of gift card homemade DIY gasket to not ruin the sear.

The Maximus only needs 2000psi max and manageable with a hand pump compared to pumping a 3000psi gun where it progressively gets super harder to pump past 2500psi. They come with a 5 year warranty too as long as it's not tinkered with.

Good luck if you want to hand pump up a 4351psi (300BAR) gun.

I would buy 4 sets of spinner targets too they are on sale for dirt cheap. Especially with free shipping on Friday orders.

I'd go with the Maximus. You'd be surprised what that gun can do. Top it with a cheap inexpensive Discovery scope, put a TKO on the muzzle and your good to go.

Find yourself a $40 hand pump and start shooting. I enjoy single shot rifles. They allow you to think about the next shot while your reloading and you don't burn through as many pellets.
