N/A Newcomer here and new to the PCP world

Hey all, new here and new to PCP's, as the title says. Have lurked as a guest for a while and found so much useful info that I had to join.

I've had quite a few barrel breaks and pumpers over the years, but just recently got a PCP. Started off by getting the Beeman Underlever .22, which is my first bullpup, and a compressor. I like the Beeman, but honestly keep going back to my barrel breaks and not sure if it's because of me not being "comfortable" enough with the my Beeman. My son, who shoots with me, has a bit of trouble with shooting the Beeman too. So been looking to get something that suits both our needs. I'm 6 foot 225 and he's 8 going on 18 😆 Mostly backyard plinking and pest control around the property at 20-40 yards. After a lot of research I'm between the Jet 2 and the Notos, leaning heavily towards the Notos partly because of it being regulated. Which do you think would be a better fit for someone new to PCP's and would be better for adults and younger shooters?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the tips I picked up along the way lurking before joining

Would highly recommend the Notos over the Jet. Airgunweb has a good review video on YouTube comparing these 2 and after watching it I went with the Notos. Regulated, highly customizable, and overall fun/accurate. All I really had to do when I got mine was adjust the trigger and clean the barrel and it is a blast to shoot. The trigger was terrible from the factory (I suspect the grub screw may have been out of position badly) but I took it out m, put a dab of blue locktite on it and replaced and adjusted it and now it’s a single stage light pull that works perfectly. Little red dot on it sighted in and it’s been great.

I’d suggest watching that video on YouTube and hearing what airgunweb has to say about then. Made a lot of sense to me.

Awesome, thanks for the response. Notos it is 😆 Will be ordering one today
This is the current price list for the Notos. If you’re not looking for a deal or are more comfortable buying from a big retailer, by all means do it. If you’re looking to save a buck, I got mine for $225 with shipping and tax.

I recently ordered a Notos and LOVE it. Also, ordered a GX EL-2 from Amazon. They currently have a $50 off coupon!

The Notos magazines are not very good, IMO. I'd highly suggest getting magazines from Troy at BigAirPrecision.com. He ships quick and they work very well! There is a special where you buy 3 and get one free. He also has moderators and it seemed to drop my sound level by a good 5db. Free shipping too!

Will definitely look at those. Have one in the cart right now from big retailer but wanted to decide on a scope for it before checking out. Appreciate the advice

That was one thing I got from all the reviews was change from the stock mags. Will give those a try. What is needed to attach the moderator? If I'm not mistaken isn't it more than just threading on a new moderator?

I heard Troy no longer sells the moderators. They are actually an insert. They do not just "thread on". You have to punch out 2 pins near the endcap, remove the endcap put in insert and put the two pins back in.

Right, they do not thread on the barrel, you have to remove the OEM moderator first.

He doesn't have them on the website yet. However, if you drop him a line, he'll hook you up. They were $25 as well.

When you remove the two pins, do so from the bottom and drive them out the top. I used a 2x6 and a rag, placed the barren on that and then a punch to get them started, then a small nail to drive them the rest of the way out.

For scopes, I chose a Bug Buster 3x9-32. I'd advise going a different route though as there is no room to alter the eye relief with such a compact scope.

Good to know, as that's one I was considering. I really want to get a good scope for darker lighting situations, but not sure that's in the budget right now. Going to do some looking through the scopes categories on here this afternoon and try get some good info there

So the Notos came in and I've had a little time shooting it, around 120 pellets. Really nice for the price point, although I may need to pick up another since my son loves this thing and has pretty much claimed dibs. Have had a few hiccups with the stock mags, but knew that was coming, so already had some Maples on order that should be arrivng in the next few days. I appreciate everyone that chimed in

What kind of issues did you have with the stock mags. I’ve heard that from quite a few people but haven’t had any issues myself. Just wondering what goes wrong with them so I can keep an eye out for issues.

Biggest issue was mag alignment I guess, or so it seems. Happened more on first round after reloading mag. When cocking the lever would comeback fine and then when going forward it would not let you load the pellet at all, almost as if the mag was empty and you tried reloading. After removing the jammed mag the pellet had turned sideways at a slight angle, and the skirt was all deformed. It happened on a a lot of the mag reloads.

A few of the times it somewhat happened, you felt like you were forcing the pellet in more than guiding it, but it would still load if that makes sense. I'm sure on those shots the skirts had been squeezed too. Going to play around and see if I notice accuracy difference on the "forced reloads" compared to the smoother ones.

No issues at all with the single load tray.

Look into the zelos as the big brother of the Notos. Great bang for you buck and since you like the Notos you’ll love the zelos and get a little more range.
I agree the Zelos is a great bang for the buck, but the Notos and Zelos really belong in 2 different leagues.

Also, if you like the Zelos, check out the new offerings from Snowpeak from shot show this year. They look to blow the Zelos out of the water.

I've been looking at the Zelos along with a few others. The ones I've been looking at are all in different category and price ranges so not sure where to settle. I'm nowhere near decided on any still going down the rabbit hole, especially with the different price categories.

Some of the options are, and again I remind you I know a lot of these guns are in different categories:

Mid Budget ($400-$600) - Zelos, Macavity Arms MA2, Air Venturi Avenge X, Barra 250Z, Maurader, another Notos with some other goodies.

High Budget for now ($700-$900) Reximex Throne 2, Daystate Huntsman Revere, AEA SF Series variants. Granted I've barely explored these options, something about the Reximex I like tho after seeing videos and reviews.

Being new to PCP's I'm not sure what quality and felt changes come with the different price ranges, I only owned low entry level PCP's. I do eventually see myself really splurging on a way higher quality gun over the current ones mentioned, meaning higher price ranges than current options, but not there yet. A lot of solid options at the lower price ranges I'm looking at, which adds room for other needed accessories or more to pit towards other guns, or go to higher level options and build off that platform.

I'm open to suggestions and advice. Also open to used options. Sorry for the long post.
