Next pellet to try that is sold at Walmart?

Need to make a Walmart run for assorted other things and thought I should buy another pellet to try, for a Daisy 880.

I’ve only tried Daisy pointed pellets (7.something grains) and RWS R10 wadcutters (8.2 grains). I remember seeing one or two other kinds at Walmart. Any recs on something different to try next? Maybe something with a domed head? I could mail order anything but just want a tin or two I can pick up in person, no fuss involved.

My walmart pretty limited . Cphp. Parahans , Destroyers, pointed ( sometimes.). Crosman pointed do ok . Then the same sad daisy pointed. The gamo redfites and rockets but low tin count for the money and no better over all.

Use to have ruger pointed but just in .22 .
In all i just now only get the 3 crosman choices cphp in .177& .22 unless there sold out. Next up paranhas (.22) or the pointed (.177). The rest i just leave and check back on the crosmans back in stock..lol.

Honestly.. go buy one tin of each you've not used and test them .. i wish Walmart sold the daisy black box flathead .177 instead of them sad pointed. .. just funny of all the daisy guns and bb ect, stuff they only sell then pointed pellets from daisy.. i guess they got to get rid of them somehow..lol
The Daisy pointies have not been bad, depending what I’m doing. They’re finicky to load, though.

Recently I put a nested pair of soup cans on the ground and fired 10 Daisy pointies and 10 RWS R10 wadcutters at them, mostly with me sitting on the ground but a fair number shot kneeling or standing. All from at least 33 ft away. Whatever position the can ended up, that’s what I shot next, which made changing positions useful—and fun. Sometimes it was broadside to the can, sometimes head-on to the flat bottom/top circles, sometimes angled diagonally.

All the pellets hit the can. While that’s not a small target, it gives an idea how even with a newbie using a beginner gun offhand unscoped, the cheap Daisy pointies did the plinking task just fine, as did the pricier R10 pellets.

At this time, I’m blaming poor shots mostly on me. They happen when I use more demanding targets (or can’t see well), but that should improve with more practice. And that’s the point at which I’ll be at risk of sliding down the WhatGunToBuyNext hole.

Meanwhile, off to Walmart seeking Crosman domes...

Dont think Walmart sells the domed just the hollowpoint or paranhas in crosman .. unless you find the copper ultra domed still. Then i think that's a 250 count instead of 500.

Heck grab what you can and try them out.. its all fun in the end

Tractor Supply is another seller Cphp or sometimes domes the TS 's around here usually has the milk cartons 1200 count @ $6.50
Mist be nice of the 3 easy to dtive to here nothing... Well they say " we order them / scan the shelve sticker but they nevrr send any" . Been years now it seems since they had any pellets or bb . Figured tractor went woke .

Drat, they DID have those in stock but I had never heard of that pellet, only the brand. I bought the Crosman Premier Copper Magnum domed ones, 10.6 grains. They really feel heavier than my other pellets. Easy to load.

The thunderstorms took enough of a break that I could try the new pellets out. Didn't think it would hold off rain long enough for a warmup (I like to shoot 5 to 10 at cans before doing anything else). So I went straight to the steel spinner trio (also Crosman). Aimed only at the two larger ones this time, 33 ft distance, sitting position. Of 20 pellets, I missed the spinners on 5 or 6, all of them from getting The Wee Wobbles. I need to gain better control of timing with my breath and heartbeat! But I can honestly say that I knew the misses were going to miss right when I fired. The new pellets did not throw any strays; it was all on me.

The bad weather didn't materialize, allowing me to shoot 20 more pellets. This time I used the Daisy pointies and just relaxed by shooting the nested steel can and a soda can. All 20 hit the cans again. It's amazing to me how a bigger size makes such a difference in ease of hitting the target.

I'm hoping to do another test tomorrow. So far, I like the pellets enough to buy another tin or two the next time I go to Walmart. Will also buy the Gamo Silent Cat if they still have it on the shelf.

I stopped at Tractor Supply a few weeks ago, asking for pellets. They only stocked BBs.

They have some air rifles and pistols at my nearest one. The next closest one is in a slightly larger city, and just has BB guns.

To jetpopt,
Sounds like you are having a great time. The Daisy 880 is a fun little gun, and at its designed distances is a good shooter. Don’t get discouraged after reading so many posts about the FX, Daystate and other high end guns on the forum.

What you are doing is probably a lot more fun than all the serious folks with expensive equipment. I’ve got a couple Daystates and weihrachs, but when I just want to relax and make some smiles, I just grab an old crosman pumper or my Daisy 880, and blast away until the stress is gone, or I run low on pellets. About any cheap pellet works great in them, although I typically use the RWS basics.

Just use what you have and enjoy. You are building some good fundamentals and muscle memory that can transfer to other guns and shooting.

Take care.

For me it's a toss up of the 880 and the 2289🥴*until I acquire more pumpers 😅

Thanks for the encouragement! I don’t get envious or anxious reading about other people’s high end gear. I do wish I could shoot as accurately as some of the posters. Then I realize they’ve been doing this much longer than I have. And they practice frequently and diligently. Equipment makes a difference but it’s not the whole story.

Also, I’ve been the high-end-gear user in other sports, and you are absolutely right that low price does not mean low fun factor! So in addition to my unusual, expensive, relatively fragile object of fetishism (OK, not really!), I have a cheap, mass market, somewhat abusable plastic counterpart, designed for kids. I enjoy it for what it is, as I do with the 880.

The low priced stuff has another advantage: if something isn’t the cat’s meow, it cost very little in the first place. No major regrets involved.
