Nikon Prostaff EFR

I really like them personally. They seem marginally brighter and wider than the Clearidge to me, but the objective is bigger so that should be expected.

The Clearidge has better turret feel to me. And just seems a little more solid overall.

I guess my only gripes with the Nikon are the plastic turret caps, and the fact that is a physically large scope. It's the same size as my old Vortek 4-12X40 Diamondbacks. Basically you could have a higher power scope for the same size and weight as the 3-9X40 Nikon. In my mind, 3-9X should be lightweight and compact.

I really like the target dot reticle on the Nikon. It's very fine and I think it's a great reticle for airguns. The MilDot on the Clearidge is too thick for my liking. But they also make a target dot which is very good, and my personal preference.

They are both really good scopes. I've got a couple of each and like both very much. Just depends on what you are looking for out of them.

Here is the warranty card that came with my Nikon Prostaff EFR for what it is worth.

Hi All,

When Nikon got out of the scope business a few years back they were selling very reasonably. There were some minor variations as some have plastic turret caps and some have aluminum turret caps. As mentioned, rather big for a 3-9 but they work for me.

I think that is the whole point. Nikon GOT OUT OF THE RIFLE SCOPE BUSINESS.

So, you take your chances if you buy one now as far as the warranty is concerned and whether or not it is really an original Nikon scope.

If Nikon was still selling them and backing them with a good warranty, I might consider buying one if they had one that interested me.

But now that they are OUT OF THE RIFLE SCOPE BUSINESS, I would NEVER buy one.

YMMV and to each their own...

I own several of these EFR Nikon scopes, a couple on rimfire rifles a couple on air rifles - break barrel and pcp and a couple in their box with no place else to sit and wait. They were (still are) "to me" a fine, fairly priced scope before being discontinued, with great reticle and great glass. And IF one of mine goes bad with no more warranty coverage,, I'll chalk it up as "Oh Well, it was great while it lasted".
