Leupold, Weaver, Swarovski, Bushnell, Burris, Sightron, and when I got cheap Meullar these were the scopes throughout my life. Now with my new sub hobby and joining this forum I have learned new names Athlon, Element, Arken and Hawke. So far the ZELOS has a Athlon heras 6-24 and on the way for my Daystate revere is an Arken epl4 4-16. With the order of a Hatsan neutron star I’ve been researching. I was ready to pull the trigger on an Element nexus 5 5-20 on sale for $880. I was thinking about when I was shooting benchrest 22lr with my silhouette rifle with a Leupold vx3 6-20, even though it shot perfect scores I desired more power. Hence I nixed the Element and went real high power. Athlon ares etr uhd 15-60x56
Im gonna put it on my most accurate gun. I had a Sightron s3 10-60 for 1000 yard f class, don’t think at that range with mirage I could use it much over 30x. I am sorry I sold that one but f class was just too much work accurizing loads, didn’t think I’d need again.

So awake in the middle of the night justifying another thousand !

I was trolling scope vendors on Alibaba around the same time. Obsolete Burris Eliminator III for $150. Uh-huh totally legit. Ask them questions and they immediately want to take the conversation off Alibaba. Then there is payment, cash or cash equivalent. Every vendor selling that has been on Alibaba for 1 year and has had no sales. Totally not a scam, just trust them...

I suggest you watch Texas Plinking on YouTube 1 moa at 1,000 yards. A goodly portion of them use Arken. I've sold off my non Arkens.

I've watched every episode of this match and it's fun to see the outcomes unfold and lots of "??!!'s" different kinds being made.

There's some reasons why they can't see where they are missing and in so not knowing where to correct too to make a hit. Believe me a tad better IQ goes a long way to seeing well through a scope at long range. Superior IQ means seeing where exactly in the dirt they hit versus only seeing the dust kick up near the steel.

Also, not scope related, it's easier to see where one hits in the dirt when a heavier bullet is used, providing their rifle is settling back down well enough so the miss is in the FOV of the scope. Basically a guy using a unbraked and lightweight hunting rifle in 300WM has a tough time with this aspect.
But conversely so does a guy using a 223 because that tiny low BC bullet doesn't kick up much dust even though there isn't much rifle upset.

I'da loved to take my 23 pound braked 30-375R, using 230 hybrids at 2935 fps, to this match but the barrel is burned out. However my 24 pound 6.5 Saum, which is what barrel is on that gun now, using 140's at 3238 fps, would be really good too. Actually make that 25 pounds now if the Genesis was on top.

IMHO that ETR 15-60 has very good IQ which isn't far behind my March Genesis or my S&B and definitely was a few steps up than the Arkens I've looked through. However I haven't looked through the DNT or Arken 7-35 yet.

Perhaps a good grill cleaner will take care of the burns on the barrel? KIDDING That last one with the guy hitting the silhouette, how in the heck did he miss seeing that? But then I can barely shoot 125 yards with a pellet gun, need to add a few more but there are horses in the way.

Yeah I wish a charbroil wrapped around a brush would fix the rifling missing the first .75" and also the firecracking 8" down the barrel. Be way cheaper and easier!!! So far I've burned out 5 PB barrels which isn't much compared to a lot of long range shooters.

Once that mirage intensifies, which includes the heat coming off the barrel, it gets tough seeing what's going on way out there. But at least they get a good idea which direction the wind is going. At some point its best to dial down the magnification so the mirage isn't so magnified. Seems counterintuitive but its a catch22 thing.

The worst mirage I've seen was while shooting in a cinder pit, when laying down prone, and working up a load, in the late morning. I learned my lesson and left, then went back at sunup the next day.

Yeah no reason not to buy a great scope based on a gun. There will always be others it can go on either now or in the future for sure.
