I can relate!
So many times I've gone out and haven't seen much, sometimes a Raven or a Hawk would circle over.
Though one time it had snowed around an inch and when I got up from where I was calling to walk back to the truck I saw fresh Coyote tracks not 25yards behind me. I could see where it had stopped and that it had turned around and left. I think a fair amount of the time predators will come in and we don't ever see them.
My success rate was around 15 stands per coyote which is a lot of work so I haven't gone calling in over a decade. This was all with centerfires. I've shot more Coyotes off my property than I have out in the wilds, 22rf and small 17 and 20 cal centerfires. I should do some calling out in the FS behind my house because I haven't seen a cottontail in years which means the Coyotes numbers are up and well we hear them a lot nowadays.
No opportunities to shoot one with a airgun yet and I'd use my 99fpe V3 in 25 cal.
