NOMAD 2 Portable PCP Compressor (Full Review) Is this PCP's Best Option?

Hey guys. This Air Venturi Nomad 2 seems to be high quality. It's also noticably more powerful than my previous $300 12V junk compressors. Will it last 6 months? Here is a snapshot at how the Nomad 2 works and is maintained (everything you need to know)...as well as all the stats and specs....and a demo. I honeslty think it may be the best option for your average PCP shooter. Thanks for watching! -Nate

Mine lasted 24 days until it started pumping slower, 26 days before it stopped going above 2000psi, 27 days before it stopped building pressure completely, and 28 days for Pyramydair to send me a shipping label to send it right back to them for a full refund.

On top of that it took nearly 5 minutes to fill a Dreamline or a Marauder from regulator to full. The Nomad could make a great backup or field compressor but for the price, you can get two of the VEVOR knockoffs and still have some spare cash for a ton of pellets. I definitely wouldn't recommend one as a primary filling system regardless to a heavy user.

It is an $800 compressor that does absolutely nothing better than the $300 knockoffs (rebrands?) do.

I am still running my Nomad version 1, no issues.

I keep it in an Apache case.

I am suprised to hear that some consider the Nomad to be junk. ...so if the Nomad is not a good choice...what compressor should I buy?

I have lost $5000 on PCP compressors so far (4 years)

7 Yong Heng / Tuxings

$1400 Benjamin Re Charge

$400 Orange 12V

...all scrap metal now.

I wanted an Omega a few times but they are never in stock...for years, never in stock.

...and don't tell me some $3k-$5k compressor. I am a normal person. I'm not rich. If I spend $5k, it will be on a Thomas slug gun or a motorcycle.

Have you not made use of any of their warranty?

That $5000 you lost on all those compressors could have bought you a Bauer or Alkin or almost 2 Coltris.

Why have you not put out negative reviews on you tube on said $5000 worth of broken compressors?

This information would at least be honest and others would appreciate it instead of making bad buying choices for them selves.

I didn't lose money on compressors because I use a hand pump.

If you have 7 Yong hengs surely you could salvage parts to make atleast 2 or 3 good ones?

Can't imagine the Yong hengs failing by only using them to fill guns.

That Nomad 2 is likely going to add on to your $5000 loss unless you are one of the very few lucky ones.

It will break sooner or later. They eventually all do. Playing the odds. House always wins.

Some pay extra for additional years of warranty.

If there is no option to purchase a long term warranty I would not buy it especially since they are made in China. They aren't made to last. Built for profit not for longevity. They catch you have to keep buying new ones over and over again. Cutting corners to build goods using the cheapest materials and inhumane slave labor low wages no day off for greed and profit never mind screw the customer. Let the rich keep on getting richer.

Why you think so many made in China items are defective or have problems even when brand new? Air guns compressors scopes. Even well respected Vortex and Athlon brand for the money you spend. Warranty sure is great but still it sucks when you lose more money having to pay for mailing things back with insurance and have to wait. Some companies even well known Hawke brand selling Chinese scopes will even screw the customer over even if they have life time warranty.

If buying any thing from China be dang sure you pay very little as possible since you know how huge the mark ups are on Chinese made things or if paying more than their actually worth at least be sure thay have life time warranty for your protection. Don't get ripped off.

You treated your compressors as if none of them had any basic warranty.

Sounds like a very rich person to be able to junk all those compressors just like that with out thinking of sending any thing back for warranty and just keep on buying new compressors as soon as the last ones fail.

Rather surprised about the many Yong Heng failures since they are supposed to be the reliable cheap Chinese compressors from the bunch.

Buy an Alkin or at least a Coltri. Nothing else to choose from since you seem to be very un lucky in the compressor department. Most certainly nothing made in China for sure in your case.

You make my argument for me. You've spent $5,000 cumulative buying scrap iron compressors and have nothing but frustration to show for it. Had you cried once, you could have spent $2,500 up front for a fast filling Coltri MCH-6, or $3,200 for an Alkin 31. Now, 4 years later you would still be getting fast fills and have a compressor worth $2,000 plus in resale value. You buy and sell airguns after reviewing them so you are familiar with resale value. Junk compressors break down quickly and have little to no resale value. Quality pays for itself in lack of headaches, repairs, downtime, and excellent resale value.

You don't want to spend your money on a high dollar compressor. But you are frustrated and wasted your money hoping for reliability from cheap junk compressors. I don't understand your logic. You wouldn't buy 7 Xisico's and wonder why they don't perform like one Daystate.

So there's an affiliate link for others to click on and buy one through your YouTube channel so you earn 5% or $40 per sale?

On a compressor that you your self asked will it last 6 months?

Do a Google search for Air Venturi Nomad 2 issues.

If yours ends up failing do you still keep your Nomad 2 video posted up on you tube with the 5% or $40 paid commission affiliate link?

Or will you edit it to express your concern and advise others never to waste their money on it and remove your affiliate commission link?

How much did you actually pay for your Nomad 2 that you reviewed or was it donated sponsored for your YouTube channel review?

stoutblock - Crosman silicone chamber oil works fine and is fairly easy to get. Good news (or perhaps bad news) is 3-4 of the 1/4 oz tubes will probably outlast the compressor. A tube goes a long way using only 2-3 drops at a time.

I got a Nomad II in Jan 2019 and the rod/crank froze up in July. AV replaced it with a new one and it still works, but, in Dec 2020 I also got a Hill EC-3000 so the Nomad has been used very little since then. It's great for field trips.

Word to the wise. Don't make my mistake and buy a "remanufactured" Nomad II from Pyramid Air. No returns on remanufactured products and mine arrived looking like it had been ridden hard and put away wet. I opened it up and all sorts of bits were missing. I'm going to try and rebuild mine, hopefully it'll last a while longer so it isn't a complete waste of money.

Here's a parts diagram in case anyone else needs it.

I would go with a Hill, besides a couple blown fuses I think the only other issue I read about was a member had an issue with the display? I think he had an early release unit, and I don’t remember the exact details.

Thanks! I will try to find some. I am crossing my fingers on the Nomad II. Once I get my L2 dialed in I doubt I will go through more than a few tins of pellets a year as I'll use it mostly for local pest control. I may also get a scuba tank and have it filled locally as an alternative. Hopefully at reduced us the Nomad may last a while?

I would recommend getting a CF tank like a Great White (keep an eye out in the Classifieds on this site) rather than a Scuba tank. Most Scuba tanks are only fillable to 200 Bar if memory serves, and in some places FL comes to mind, the dive shops won’t fill your tank unless you have your Divers Certification, PADI etc.

CF tank it is then!
