Just did the basic maintenance per the manual. She was purring like a kitten before I did it, but still got this amount of junk out of it.

Keep an eye out for more black oil under the foot pad . My unit left a spot like that a couple times after routine maintenance.

It's from the moisture purge. No filter involved....it just drains when the screw is opened. When you do the maintenance, you're basically flushing the system of moisture and oil.

Did my first one Saturday and it did not look like that at all, it was just wet. I am pretty sure you have more time on yours as I just hit the 20 fill mark but I cannot think of any mechanical device that would be happy with that floating around in it!
On a side note after doing the first purge my compressor had issues doing the next fill. It would shut off as soon as it started to make pressure, running for about 3 to 5 seconds. I tried several times to power it down and restart it with the same results. On a whim I decided to hold my finger over the oil add hole for a second when strating it up and it worked, and has been working just fine since. Not sure what happened to make it act this way and we will see if it happens again next time. Anyone else have similar issue?

I saw from your earlier post you are using Superlube in your compressor. I did a little poking around on thier the website and found this:
What is Super Lube®?
Super Lube® is a patented, multi-purpose synthetic lubricant, containing Syncolon® (PTFE) particles held in suspension. Super Lube® lasts longer and outperforms conventional petroleum-based greases and oils.Â
So this is not pure silicone oil as it has teflon in it. I wonder if that is what is making it black, burnt teflon.

There are at least two different varieties of Superlube. The silicone oil I got is this stuff:

It's 100% silicone. In Steve's video on the Nomad II, he got a bunch of black stuff out when he did the same maintenance.

Good to know there are a couple of types. I watched Steves Vlog video and it looked like white/clear liquid came out when he did the purge in that video. I thought I watched the full review video as well but must not of paid enough attention to it. Good to know no reason to freak if my next system purge looks like yours did!

I probably used a little more oil than was needed, as it was difficult to measure "drops" being the lube hole puffs air during operation.
So I ended up just putting the tip of the nozzle into the hole and giving a light short squeeze on the bottle at the 30-second intervals.
When I did this, I could hear the compressor load up as the lube worked it's way in. I figured that I may have squeezed a bit too much in so I did it less each time after that to the point when there would just be a slight brief load instead of a heavier longer load.
I then let it run for 5 min to make sure everything was purged. Like I said, it's purring like a kitten.

Ok I did not realize this was the long maintenance routine where you are adding oil in 30 sec intervals. I thought thats what you got out of it after just opening the valve on the bottom. This makes more sense now.Â

I always tip mine completely on end to drip the oil. But for this maintenance, I just tipped it 45* due to it was running.
My oil is pretty thin, sort of like cooking oil but even thinner.

I think using silicone oil from a spray bottle with the little straw tip makes lubing and maintenance a little easier. Here is the one I"m using, so far so good. One quick spray is all I've added every 5 fills.

Just did mine for the first time and got the dark crud as well, though not as dark or as much as you did. But then my fills are usually short. Agree it makes a mess trying to add drops. I am using the small tube of crosman stuff but like wiseguys idea of a quick spray at least for this procedure.
