Nomad II failure

I didn't want to think it was just a matter of time, but with all the other failures I've read about, it happened to mine today.

After about 30 hours of trouble-free operation, all it would do today was run like normal but not output any air. I filled the Impact just yesterday with no issues.

Took the cover off and everything appears intact....nothing loose. I can't tell if air is leaking somewhere before the output line because the fan pushes so much air around.

No fluid leaks....it looks perfect.

Looks like I'll be sending it in.
 
Sounds normal as in if I wasn't looking at the gauge, I wouldn't have known it wasn't building pressure in the line.

I checked the gauge on the rifle as well and it wasn't filling. I also removed the fill hose and held my finger over the outlet and there was no pressure.

If I knew what to replace I'd gladly do it myself. I'll look into it further on a different day.

$600.00 for 6 months isn't a great deal IMO.

Sorry to hear about your problem with the Nomad 2. Try starting the unit and play with the bottom purge knob, opening and closing it while running. Also, cover and uncover the lube port/air intake with your finger, you may break something loose. Also, I bet your amp draw is low too, as in no load. I think your Nomad has made it longer than others but 30 hrs is still way too short. A/V will take care of you I'm sure but the longevity of the Nomad 2 is a big question. At least yours didn't do the death knock, it may be a simple check valve. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I don't have a dog in this fight because I don't have a Nomad 2 … I use a Super Charger.

The thing that would irk the snot outta me is the simple fact that these compressors were not just made one day and then they decided to put them on the market for sale. If good manufacturing practices were followed they would have been tested and re-tested for months before ever being put out there for consumption. Could anyone honestly tell me that the manufacturers are surprised by the number of failures of these units … I don't think so.

If they are in fact having a high failure rate, they will probably be discontinued soon. I would consider selling it after you get it repaired and invest in a more robust compressor.

Would you buy it? It would eventually fail again on someone else? He should get a refund or credit towards another better compressor.

Negative, I am not in the compressor market, have no use for a disposable compressor, am a believer in buy once cry once. Agree that a refund or credit would be awesome, but who does that for a 6mo. used item? Nobody that's who. Besides even if a credit was offered for a better compressor, which one does Pyramid offer that is better? The Chinese Nardi which is $500 dollars more than the 220v Daystate? That makes zero sense to me. 

But maybe, someone that has that compressor who is out of the warranty period might want a parts machine? Agree, it may be a hard sell but that's what I would do and move on.

Bob O sorry to hear your Nomad 2 compressor died. Fortunately??? mine died during the initial 30 days from purchase date so I did not have to pay shipping back to AV. They did fix mine, but the invoice only said "replaced part". I do like the idea it is portable, but I am now thinking about a less portable but more reliable $$$ compressor if I can find a brand I feel is reliable. The compressor was the biggest reason I stayed away from PCP air rifles for so long. Let us know what you find if you do fix it yourself.

Mine came This past Thursday. It is on a Fed Ex Truck back to PA today. Didn't even work out of the box. Would not build pressure and would not fill guns. I asked for a replacement unit but at this point, I am wishing I would have found this forum sooner and the reviews here. I would have asked for a refund and gotten a second Carbon Fiber 74 tank since my local fire department fills my current tank for me. 700 Bucks for a unit that doesn't work out of the box and all these reviews have me leery. Should get better quality and performance for what these cost. Highly Disappointed in this unit. Hoping my refund/repair experience with PA is as pleasant and efficient as you all have described on here.

Must be the season. My Daystate went belly up yesterday. My story is on another thread. I'm planning to going to nitrogen. I'm tired of messing with this compressor. Nitrogen is clean and dry and it's looking to me to be about the same money. My daystate was purchased in late 17 or early 18 and I doubt I have 50 hours on it. I plan on having it fixed if it's not too outrageous and I'll keep it as a back up so if nitrogen turns into liquid gold. Daystate is supposed to be the thing to have. Well guess what they fail too. I'm thinking it's going to be more common then we might think. My unit was serial number 056. AOA told me they have 15 pallets of daystate compressors on hand. Must be selling like hot cakes (or not)

Got my replacement unit yesterday and fired it up tonight. This one at least fills guns but the display is defective. First number in the load meter is so dim its hard to even read other two are lit up well... took 18 minutes to fill my 35 Hercules from 100-250 bar.... I just can’t trust these units. Two units new in box and both have had defects albeit the first one didn’t even hold pressure and this defect is more cosmetic it speaks to the quality of these and theretofore the long term reliability therein. This one is going back for an exchange on a tank and a maybe a new gun. For 700 bucks I just can’t trust this to last and be dependable based on the two units I have gotten.
