Nomad II messed the bed

I was what I thought lucky enough to come across an estate sale, actually I was and grateful for everything I got for the price I did. Within this sale that had been purchased in 2018 was a Nomad II compressor.

The elderly man who passed away, and who owned all this PCP equipment prior to me buying it from his widow, owned everything for literally 2 weeks before passing..

So last week I watched videos and read everything I could about these little compressors, added 3 drops of Super Lube silicon oil then topped up my Impact with zero issues, then shut it off, drained what little moisture was in it and stored it bsck in its nice canvas storage bag.

Last night i thought I’d top up my .25 Crown to go plinking starlings this morning early. I plugged compressor into the house 120V, cracked the air relief valve to allow the compressor to start running without any load on it, everything looking and sounding good, check check check, I tjen close the pressure relief thumb wheel and it pumped for about I’d say 3-5 seconds, then I thought I tripped the house 15amp breaker because the entire thing poop down. No breaker wasn’t tripped so o check the 30amp fuse, no it’s not blown.. what the... unplugged then plugged back in and cooling fan comes on but it’s beeping and throwing an L code and from the little bit of info I could find indicates it possibly means a possible issue with the low power circuit (12V side ?? )

A forum member here mentioned many mixed reviews on these compressors and had I known it would S*** the bed this fast, o would’ve dumped it as soon as I got it and bought a Yong Heng. I just bought a brand new 60 minute CF air Venturi and thought how slick it would be to have the capability to top up my rifle bottles having a little compressor to save the big tanks air while afield, but hmmm this doesn’t leave me feeling too warm and fuzzy especially with this Nomad as close to new as it is.

Any ideas other than a small bonfire or maybe shooting the middle of the O in Nomad. I’m up here in Canada and sending this across the border to have repaired well that’s nothing but a huge hassle I’m sure.

Mine up and croaked yesterday. I bought it last August. I maintained it just like the manual suggests.

Similar but different than yours.

Plugged in my Taipan Vet Shorty in anticipation of some tuning... power cable in, twisted relief valve shut, fired up the compressor... and she pumped to 1000 psi, then slowed, then stopped entirely. Load gauge read 23 at the time of failure. Fans keep running.

It will repeat this again and again... dying at 1000 psi. Finally got the L code.

For the past 2 weeks it's been making the "jackhammer of doom" sound that everyone is reporting.

Yup. These aren't built to last. Inherently flawed. And damn pricey for a new paperweight! Least mines under warranty still.

Think I'll be upgrading to an Alkin W31.

Pick.... unbelievable the known issues and they just continue to sell this garbage like nothing’s wrong. Sounds like every component within them are junk and completely unreliable.

I could see it if they were a few hundred dollars and not expect much but when we’re paying $800, come on. I’m sure discouraged to see how brand new this thing looks inside and out and it’s down.

I see the 2 heavy gauge wires running to the pump motor. I’m tempted to get two male butt connectors and either the POS will run or do a smoke show. I’m assuming it’s 110V feeding that motor but would those two wires be hot/line and neutral or hot/line and ground ??

And just bypass everything else.

Well I’ll be calling AV tomorrow and not that I expect them to do anything because it’s out of their warranty period but they might be able to tell me what failed bc of its reasonable I’ll order the part getting it running and send it.

yes I’ve heard good reviews about the Chinese Yong Heng as long as you take certain precautions, maybe ice water in a pail etc. That’s an inconvenience too tho just wanting to quickly top up one gun.

the Mariner is a decent compressor??

Don't do this. The motor is a 12 volt DC unit. The two heavy gauge wires that you are referring to are positive and negative DC. The AC function is only a transformer. If you don't understand that, you should not be playing with electricity!

So will a hefty DC converter run it then. Could I not just Bypass the switches and have the fan motor/s running along with the pump. Man they sure did cheap out on them using 12v then converting as a secondary to 120v. I hate to throw the entire thing in the dump if I could still make it work without auto shutoff etc. Anything would be better than the paperweight I have now

thankfully i didn’t pay full price for this heap as it was part of a package deal.

You wouldn't, by any chance, be related to Lieutenant Columbo, would you?

Oh damnit I just ordered one! Im gonna call PA and cancel the order then.

Cranky, I’m feeling pretty damn cranky right now brother.

I see there’s a small PCB that runs the digital display and then I’m guessing the main motherboard that sits underneath the converter.... which one of yours did they replace.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with this machine but How much would you want for your board ?? Thank you

I was told they replaced the main motherboard. Once I received the compressor back from repair it never worked right. Air Venturi was fairly rude saying that I didn’t know how to operate it. I had it for a year with no issues and kept it maintained. Pm me if you want the motherboard, but I’m willing to bet they send you one free if you contact them. It seemed like a known issue when I called them.
