NorCal Shooting range/clubs?

I would start with the Diablo Rod and Gun Club http://diablorodandgun.com/activities/

There is an air gun Benchrest club in Sacramento. I think you can get to them through the USBR web site.

If you live way up north, there is a club in Grants Pass. http://www.usairriflebenchrest.com/clubs/name/wild-river-air-rifles-at-josephine-county-sportsman-association/

Most of these guys shoot benchrest, but they may shoot other matches or know folks who do other things.

Also try Ronnie Easton and the Easton Field Target Club http://www.eastonfieldtargetclub.com/

Northern California is a big place, I use to live in Susanville, and Arcata, so you may have to start your own club, I started a club in Idaho.

Hey pheelgood,
I am on the east side of SF Bay, I know that the Chabot rifle range (off lake chabot rd Castro Valley) allows air guns, and have been thinking about trying to find other like minded people and see if they would let us try some HFT/FT, or just get together and shoot some led down range?

The Concord Club is an hour or more from me, and is the only FT club I could find in the area.

Are there any of fellow air gunners in the East Bay interested?

Let us start the the conversation.

Hello pheelgood,
Sorry about how long it has taken me to respond. After seeing no one else respond I got rather discouraged that there were no other air gunners around close by. Now with the new map thingy, I see why not much response. Maybe as this grows more air gunners will show them selves, I know there are more than 5 people with air guns in the greater Bay Area.
The Diablo rod and gun club Blueflax talked about is the club I mentioned in Concord, it is almost out in Clayton, if I recall correctly. Not an easy drive for either of us.
The closest place between us would probably be Richmond, I don't know if they allow air guns, have to check it out. They let the Mythbusters use the place, same at Chabot rifle range.
Until then just keep hitting bulls eyes.
Noel

Ken,
Thanks for the offer of HPA but I have yet to join the dark side. My shooting buddy and I talk about shooting somewhere other than his backyard all the time but never do it.
Let me know day/days of the week you can get away. I don't do Facebook, but you can contact me @ [email protected]. We may be able to find a day between rainstorms to get er done.

Thanks, Noel

You're a smarter man than i! It's a good tool sometimes and groups can be easier to follow there. Turns out I need one other person to start said facebook group. I have two PCPs and a pair of springers if you'd like to try them out someday. Shouldn't be to difficult to load it all up in the car.
I'll shoot you an email soon!

Diablo Rod and Gun club is your best bet in the Bay Area. Silhouettes first Sunday every month, Field Target third Sunday every month. The range is usually open for a couple of hours for open shooting before the silhouette match. Once a quarter on Sunday - open shoot and bench rest match. There is also open shoot on Wednesday mornings 9 - 12 for club members. They also have a 10 meter indoor league on Friday evenings. Check the Diablo Calendar.

+1 for this, went here today, still have not decided on a gun, went to meet the local crowd, see what people were shooting and learn a little about the hobby outside of internet forums / youtube videos.

Arrived as a spectator, within minutes a kind member convinced me to sign up, shoot and use his equipment. Great group of people, once I finalize on a setup I will probably make this a regular occurrence.

Warren is being humble- he showed up at the Diablo match and knocked down one more target than I did, with my gun !

Here's the skinny on what I know for the Bay Area- United Sportsman is a range co- owned by 5 clubs. One of those clubs, Diablo, has a vibrant air gun community. It's not just for members, but like American Express, membership has it's privileges. The powder burner range is temporarily closed to the public. It's been two years of temporary. The members range has only been of use to air gunners these past two years, but will shortly offer .22 rimfire as well, for all 5 clubs. Shotgun- skeet, trap and 5 stand, are open, so if you go both ways....

Diablo is easy to join via online registration, and I think, affordable. USI requires you to sign a free liability waiver, member or not. Sign up on line, search USI liability waiver.Diablo boast free tank refills for members at most events. There is also a club airtank to use while competing. Our 10 meter event is hoot- run what you brung, 22 cal and under, scope, iron or red dot. Please don't bring your 30 ft lb elephant gun, it's only 10 meters to the target.

Silhouette, field target, all under 20 ft lbs, .22 cal and under.- events posted on the online Diablo calendar, guests welcome, but members save some dough. It must be fun because SKohl comes out and schools us periodically.
Field target ( check the GTA FT link) is also once a month in Sacramento and/or Dixon. Both Dixon and Sacramento allow Airguns at the powder burner range, but PB's can be punishing (loud and hot brass) and not all RSO's understand pcp's and refilling.
Morro Bay, Temecula host FT events as well- the opportunities are out there.... Don't forget, the indoor pistol ranges at Guns, fishing and more are great places for pistol shooting as well.
