Nosey Neighbors?

When I bought this place it was grown over with saplings and tall grass in the front, and full blown woods in the back.
When I cleared the front yard I made large circles around the large oaks about 30 feet across. I called them islands.
Once we moved in I started clearing them just leaving the trees.
When I got to the furthest one I had a thought! So I hung a target and ranged it from the front porch, I could see that I would get 75 yards of range there. So I left the circle, but a cut a trail straight back to the tree and set up my pellet trap in there.
The trap is about 40x40" with a angled steel back. To see it in there you have to align with it.

My concern is more with traffic than neighbors. My neighbors are aware of it and don't see concerned. I spoke on the phone my neighbors to the see what they could hear. It turns out that my loudest guns are the Sheridan Bluestreaks.

My neighbors don't often visit but they have joined me sending a few down range.
Their guns are alot louder than mine.

These stories make me realize just how fortunate I am.
I have a secluded deck, no neighbors to either side, and a few different 30 yard range's on my own property.
Right next door is a vacant, wooded 11 acre lot, which I use for long distance airgun shooting.
Best part is I dont have to mow or maintain the 11 acres.
Ive been here 30+ years with zero complaints, and airguns have always been a part of it.

I make no effort at all to hide my targets or my shooting. That said, as far as I can tell it’s legal to do so and I have put several safety measures in to keep it safe. I keep the noise down and try to be a good neighbor but if someone just doesn’t like it well, too bad.

Because Karens & Kens have multiplied as if the were rabbits....


For targets I have used old cardboard boxes from the supermarket — that look like they are just trash sitting out there — with small red dots drawn as bulls' eyes between the labels of its (former) content.

Very... discreet.

There are things that I feel are worth upsetting someone.
Urban Target Shooting is not one of those things.

I've got a pretty secluded garden to shoot from but with new neighbors with kids, I've toned down a bit. Doing mostly low power stuff for target shooting at 10-25 yards unless I know there is no one home. Had one of the youngsters wander into my yard (I wasn't shooting at the time), so I'm extra careful about going out to 50 yards these days. I shoot 1" square paper targets on duct seal, stuffed into a short section of 4" PVC pipe. I just walk out and hang it on a garden hook and start shooting. When I'm done, I just pack it in with everything else. Easy to place where it cannot be seen by others, catches all my lead, its quiet, small and super portable

That’s easy. Pasadena won’t allow shooting so I don’t even try. My strange neighbors will call the cops if they see guns. I am an on road technician so being somewhere I can shoot is at least once a week.

Not really, the dirt bikes are more annoying. I would actually be worried if the PB's stop. As long as I hear them, that tells me we still have some freedom out here.

Yup, it's a know area for riding, lots of trails. We got the normal locals zipping around and then the out of town folks. I'm the quiet one

My neighbors all live far enough away that their reactions to my shooting airguns does not concern me. Some of them shoot PB on their land also. This is in unincorporated rural county land, not within or even near town/city limits.

However, there are two things I try to be careful about:

First, because I practice openly on my property and passers-by can see, I generally put the gun down if I hear a vehicle approaching. Even though shooting either PB or airguns on one’s own property is legal here, I don’t want to freak out anyone who doesn’t know me*. With touron season active for most of the year, this could cause a hater to lie about what and how I shoot (e.g., they call LE about shooting across the road, or shooting firearms, or being reckless etcetc).

Second, I practice much more frequently than the neighbors do. Lately there has been someone, probably at least a mile away, who shoots a PB almost daily. Sometimes it sounds like target practice; other times like prairie dog control. It is not loud. I doubt any neighbors hear more than the faintest pop from my airguns even when they’re outside.


* On the other hand, if a would-be trespasser or dumper hears gunshots from my property, the louder the better!
