Umarex Notos...my notos can't group heavier slugs

Has anyone experienced very inconsistent groups with heavier slugs? I've tried about 10 different pellets and 5 different slugs and best I've found for mine is the 13.43gn JSB's.

Everything else groups like poop.

I don't mind shooting the 13.43's but would be nice for some heavier options. Thought it had something to do with the feeding, seems to be rough loading anything but the 13.43gn but tried single loading and no different.

Any thoughts? Stressing me the f*&% out

These pics are from only 20 yards and the circles are 1/2" ...so I don't understand how they can be so bad at only 20 yards.. I've taken quail twice at 50+ yards with the 13.43gn but even at 35yards anything heavier than the 13.43gn the groups are horrendous.

These are the speeds I'm shooting at, didn't chrono the 15.89 though

This is a 45 yard target with 18.13jts between 755 and 766.. with the stock barrel back on.

Top left bull are the first shots after re attaching the stock barrel and the mounting the scope had to zero. Every single group is 5 shots. Top left bottom right and left are 2 groups. Once everything settled well and I got in a groove.. so is top right. 1 10 shot group. The one outside that ring was accidently loaded CPHP. All shots single loaded.

Make sure the scope rail isn't giving slight left to right movement. This happened to me early on. Everything would be perfect. Then 6moa left or right. Random shots all over. The stock rail gives an every so tiny amount of olay. I mounted a dovetail to picatinny 9 slot rail and mounted a cantilever directly to it. Rememedies everything.

Edit: with JSB 15.89 and HN barracuda 15s I did have larger groups like that. When I went to the JTS and AEA pellets. They tightened up in a major way. JTS 18.13 seems to be the most pinpoint. Then AEA 15.9

For me and many others 15.89 Hades function incredible. I just prefer the slightly higher bc of the 18s

Have you done the calculations for stabilization factor?

Typically, the Notos will not shoot slugs.

Slugs being very different than pellets, the term is not interchangeable. Pellets will have a thin waist and a skirt.

I'm my 10m evaluation shots with every Notos I work on show that CPHP's (14.39gr) , AEA, JTS and JSB 18gr pellets do well in almost all barrels.

My concern is that your gun has a defect causing your issues, not a bad ammo issue.

no...link info
Strelok will tell you the. Stabilization factor for the projectile dimensions and weight vs twist rate and velocity. There are other calculators online you can search that so it but you will need to know everything about your given projectile. Theres wiggle room on either end of the stabilization factor that it will still shoot for us if you aren't going long range.

Got a few squirrels today out behind the office. Decided to retest a few pellets at 35 yards.

Got my Notos down to 1.5fps stdDev with the 13.43gn and group under an inch at 52yds...well was until 1 flyer. Was tight group so I'm guessing bad skirt. Still gotta try some heavier JTS and AEA pellets.

That's not a bad group at all. But, I've had the opposite experience. Most of the people who have notos find that the heavier, the better. With the stock barrel.

JSB,Fx, and H&N have never agreed with my stock notos barrel. Using the FX barrel kit really changes the game . The superior 380mm shoots all the same pellets very well. Bumps you up maybe 45-50fps, and shoots 17gr Griffin .218 slugs extremely well.

Can a notos even shoot slugs without a lot of modding?

Dont get me wrong, I think its a great gun, but I doubt it has the power to use proper slugs at a good distance with accuracy.
Several of us found that 17.5 gr NSA .2175 slugs were performers. Since the formula seemed to change they no longer do.

Thats interesting, I may have some of those.
If you've got the superior on yours either get a tin of Griffin LDC 17gr .218 or I can ship you a few of them

Several caveats with the 17.5 NSA .2175

There seems to be size discrepancies in every box. If you feel it's a tight fit on the push in. Shoot it into the dirt or get it out.
If it loads in smoothly. You'll have a shooter.

Single load only.

Best accuracy was stock settings with plenum. About 750-760fps.

They seem to have gotten harder since first using them. And the groups have opened.
