Hey Centercut. I sure will

I just got this gun back from FX. It had been very inconsistent w wandering POI. Turns out I had a broken 57 mm HS. It had broken on the end and not the center so I couldn’t see it. They replaced with the 52 mm and the washers from the power kit.
So far it’s looking very good and a quick comparison to some 43.5’s I had on hand seems to indicate the 38.9’s to be better but I’ll need more time to make a meaningful comparison.

100 yards. There’s always that one shot🙄

@drumsnguns

It's been a hot minute since I've shot the 38.9's at 100y but easily under moa from previous testing. My fav slug ATM is the 34.9's. More because I can get those up to 1000fps without stressing the rifle out too much.

I should be heading to the range this weekend so I'll bring the 38.9's with me and get some 100y groups.

And yes, I do lube with silicone. I wash first as well. Crazy the amount of stuff that gets stuck inside the HP's or sticks to the slug itself. Slugs are less forgiving with lead buildup in my experience so I do what I can to keep extra crap out of the barrel.

Once I start seeing my groupings open up more than moa, I know it's time to run some patches through. Not squeaky clean but pull out the chunks. I have yet to be able to 'shoot through' when the groups open up...A-bc I don't have the patience, B-dont want to waste a bunch of ammo when I can take 5 min to pull some patches through and get my groups back.

Thanks MO

Some good info there. I assume you are pulling dry patches through?
I need to do that to my liner as well. With dry, the barrel recovers quicker. But it’s been a while and no telling how many slugs went down the barrel at FX for repair. Might have to do a wet cleaning and re-season.

Im using Superlube silicone in a squeeze bottle. Put it on foam in a tin and swirl around.
Is that what you’re using or do you do the W-40 Silicone (yellow can) thing? I used to wash then I quit but I might start doing that again. I use acetone to wash; really strips off oils and the like

Thanks again for the response. Good stuff. And yeah please post 100 yard results when convenient.
cheers

KP

I usually pull alternate 6 wet/dry patches through every few hundred-ish rounds or so. I more look for when I started getting random fliers as my setup is pretty consistent.

I use the wd-40 yellow right now. I've used superlube, then ran out. Also tried ptfe, didn't like that as much.

And yeah, I'll report back on 100y after some range time this weekend.

950ish is where the 38.9's seem to like my particular liner.

Reg at 155 😂 nowhere near close to maxed out on my hammer. I run one hammer weight from the slug kit. Hi-flow xfer port and probe (not the pin probe).

Here was the shot string from last night. Wasn't kidding when I said I was quickly just trying to rattle some off lol I usually warm up the liner with 10-12 shots normally before I start shooting groups.

Yeah with our different liners of course apples and oranges but good data nonetheless and for anyone who reads this post.

Those are some real good looking numbers in your string.
I did a very quick string and I think my ES was 7. But I need to do a bigger group. Still anything below ES 10 is going to be good.

I think tonight will be a major clean and then in the next day or two I’ll start on some targets.
Right now at max it’s getting 925 FPS.

All in all I think I’m going to like these slugs and this tune.

Appreciate your input.

Here's the 38.9's from the range today. I did not retune so this is using my 34.9 tune. They were going right around 950, I think bumping it up a little in my setup I could have tightened it down to 1/2".

Was a 7-10mph swirly breeze out there today. That left lower shot was all me. Wind was switching from left to right to coming from my 8 o'clock. This was the best of the groups, the other was right at 1" and then .76" with 3 in the same hole.

Edit--just noticed I had the wrong ammo label saved, this is the 38.9's

Very nice! I got 3 boxes of the 34.9 to try, need to get out! That is very good group with the wind and shows the slugs buck the wind really well.

Yeah, the 38.9's shoot well, but I'm still a huge fan of the 34.9's. They like to go fast.

OK we’ve had just terrible weather w tropical storms and all…. One thing about NC… no matter where a storm comes in, it always makes a Bee line for this state.

…now that said, Sunday evening it cleared a bit but still had SW winds at 5-10. Did my best to shoot into the wind and was able to get a few targets shot before losing the light.
Started out on PW 4 (896 FPS), and got a 0.813” group at 101 yards.
Then set it to PW 5, (915 FPS), and after some shots to settle the spring, got this target at 101 yards.

Reg at 120 Bar 700 mm Superior Heavy.
Group at 0.625” for five shots. Three shots inside the 10 ring. Used a little Kentucky windage hold to counteract the wind.
These will be my new slugs. Very happy with these.
