NSA, rat sniper or fx?

I agree with @stoti regarding the FX hybrids. Does anyone actually think that If the label said “Rat Sniper” and we didn’t have all this FX fanboy spin from sponsored You Tubers there would be even 1/10 the buzz going through the internet? Of course they may be the best thing since sliced bread, but that remains to be seen until we get subjective reports and comparisons to other brand slugs. For me, they would have to be Worlds better to pay 2.5 to 3 times the price of NSA slugs. I’m sure they’ll find their niche, but where that niche is has yet to be determined.

Agreed. Rat Sniper was smart to get his product out cause of FXs name. But yeah it's all been fan boys and sponsors so far. I'm sticking with Nick

Well, I will keep to H&N slugs as these are the only slugs we have in the UK which works in most guns . Neilson slugs are coming over to us , but at what price .... I am paying £10.70 per tin 200 delivered and can’t wait for JSB slugs to come out . It seems to me when H&N said slugs will be out in the next month , other manufacturers started to drop prices , funny that

Whatever Slug you choose, is now Happy days for slugs! NSA, FX, VarmintKnockers, GRIFFIN, AVS, H&N & JSB (and a few other manufactures I do not recall right now) and probably not so happy days for Airgun Regulations in the future.

When I started with slugs, NSA and VK where the only options (real ones) available

Happy shooting to all! 😁

And BTW, I did not mention anything before when FX Launches the "Hybrids" since was not the right moment to do it, but there are several NON hybrid slugs that shoots PRETTY DAMN GOOD out off the STX FX Pellet Liner A, you can see a few tests here I made like 9 months ago: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/test-results-after-600-slugs-shooted-022-cal-600-mm-slug-liner-on-my-x

Nick had his out well before H&N. In the states there much cheaper, cheaper than H&N even with the usual buy 3 tins get one free, free shipping and 13% off at AGD. Priced out with all those discounts they still cost 5.6¢ a shot where buying from NSA direct here with no discounts since he doesn't do that for his dealers, they were 5.4¢ a shot. So still cheaper for us than H&N even heavily discounted for the holidays.

Jeez those prohunters cost 2x the price of FX.

So true! ... And since Nick order the rapid machines, until he got it and produce their slugs, probably was WAY before even H&N announce slugs at all (is not like a 1 month decision). People get confused with "old" hand press prices from NSA (100 slugs for 18.99) vs NEW fast machine prices (350 slugs for 18.99), totally different. I AM A BIG FAN OF NSA! :D

I like both,Solid base (NSA) and hollow base/deep cup (Girffin/RatSniper/FX.... however I find the Rat Snipers/Griffin/FX have a lighter weight for longer lengths. Shorter/dense slugs don't stay upright in my sideshot FX mag so I only load 5-10 slugs at a time, defeats the purpose of a high capacity magazine. Eventually I'll have enough power to push longer heavier NSA slugs but for now I see the advantage of rat sniper/Griffin/FX hybrid type slugs.

I got hooked on the rat snipers when they hit the market. Still have a few tins. We should be thankful for so many choices.

Howdy all Can someone please explain how they qualify as “hybrid” ? Sounds good but like I heard someone say today “ I can feel my way around a barn in the dark” . I read a post that someone posted that said “ you must not know what a hybrid is”

i don’t think just because it’s made out of lead like a pellet makes it a hybrid!!! No no no and again no!!! Looks just like a slug to me . Just a large hollow Point cavity. ??? Large hollow Point =hybrid??? Lol !

If someone can show me the light I will probably ad “ true hybrid”to the title of my slugs on eBay . They are actually swaged from pellets. ...

Hallelujah!!! I hope all is well with everybody out there. If not just call upon the name of Jesus!!!🔥🔥🔥

I have been buying from Nielson for a few years now. But I wanted to try out the FX slugs to see what they are all about. 1st thing i noticed is how much louder they hit than other slugs. I have rubber stall mat in front of my backstop and when those slugs hit you can really hear it smack it. I haven't tried it out on game yet but in my closer range hunting set up this is what I will use. I like the heavier stuff that Nielson makes for longer range. I still will be using mostly Nielson slugs.

The bigger the hollow point, louder the pop will be

I think is an amazing thing to have so many options now. penetration (not to hollow) vs expansion, you need to choose the right tool for the job ;)

The FX/Ratsnipers have a thin wall that expands nicely for a standard HP at lower velocities. However there will be a new style of slug coming down the pipeline that makes the Hades look like cleaning pellets. Lol.

What is this, a new innovation? Is it a big bore hunting round (.308--.457) or just for the popular four small bore calibers?

That can was shot with a .22 fragmenting slug that weighed 28 grains. Its something I started experimenting with in the 22lr world a few years ago.

It dawned on me that it would be perfect for airgun slugs. So Long_Shot and I have been doing R&D for the last year to perfect them. Extreme expansion at very low power, meaning the same at extreme long ranges. Full expansion at over 260 yards leaving the barrel at 935 fps.

Once the idea catches I have absolutely no doubt they will be made commercially. It's just too big of a difference to ignore.

Our requirements regarding slugs change with the power of the air gun we are shooting, the density of our target, from paper to large animals, distance, what shoots best in our gun, and our intent. So we have need of projectiles from light pellets to large heavy slugs. Some of us will stick with pellets, some will always shoot slugs. Some are short range paper targets, others long range targets, some want inexpensive projectiles to others cost is not much of a consideration. To me there is no best ammo only the best ammo for the shooter and his or her situation. I occasionally have need to dispatch raccoons when they appear to ravage my holdings and endanger pets etc. Then I want a semi auto .25 with slugs. Generally I'm dealing with squirrels Like the one that just chewed through my latest water hose. Many of the shooters at this forum want long range hunting and target ammo, some simply backyard plinking and occasionally pesting. The market will settle out to meet the shooters needs. BUT it is important to support our manufactures and suppliers. And buy what you want to keep the manufactures operating and the suppliers stocking what you need. To buy large quantities once ever one or two years does not encourage them to continue their endeavor. Each shooter will do as he pleases, hope fully we will all survive the glut of guns and pellets and slugs and the government will stay out of it. Remember to follow the basic rules of shooting, be aware of local laws and abide by them. With so many people seeing our guns which appear to be Firearms to them we are in the minority, they will make the rules. Guard against losing our hobby. Good shooting , safe shooting. GBGUNNER
