Nuisance Fox

We've had a few foxes in my area starting problems, and acting aggressively towards the neighborhood cats. Last night before bed I heard a commotion outside my bedroom window and managed to get a shot off from about 20 yards. The 25.4gr pellet caught him square between the eyes and just dumped him on the spot. Hopefully he was the worst offender in the area and things cool off for a bit.

We have one that had 6 kits this year in our neighbor they live under one of the neighbors shed in her back yard, so far they haven't bothered anyones cats that I've heard.
That seems to match the preponderance of credible sources. A fox attacking a grown cat is not unheard of but quite rare.

We’ve had a number of red foxes visiting our yard at night for more than a decade, and if any of them was brave enough to tangle with one of our cats, there has never been any harm to any of them to serve as evidence.

However the foxes did have an affinity for my neighbor’s ducks so I’m not opposed to giving one a dirt nap when it becomes a problem.

Beautiful animals though. One of the red foxes I shot, I called a local taxidermist to offer it to him free of charge so it wouldn’t go to waste. Straight away it was clear he was interested. Then he asked me what i shot it with.

Him: So did you get him with a shotgun? Is it pretty torn up?

Me: Nah, just a little pinhole right between the eyes. Pellet rifle from about 45 yards...dropped him like a sack of potatoes.

Him: What? I’ve never heard of something like that.
