Odd but Possible Viable Lead Source?

Back when I had the commercial fish boat we were ALWAYS on the lookout for lead. Ever troll for fish using a downrigger? Our weights were between 40 and 90 lbs. for the "cannonballs" we used. Save that roofing Lead. Scrap lead is a buck a Lb. nowadays! Save and resell it if you don't use it. Toward the end of my career scrap metal places would not take anything related to X-ray equipment due to fear of radiation. They need a physics lesson :)

Been out of shooting for a few years, and now getting back into it, and not sure why I never thought to ask this......

I own a roofing company here in Texas. Alot of homes that we re-roof have lead pipe boots / lead pipe jacks (whatever you want to call them) that we replace. Sometimes they're painted to match the roof, but sometimes not.

Anyone know if these would be a viable source of lead if I were to ever considering swaging my own slugs?
What part of Texas? My brother in law owns a commercial roofing company in the Houston area that does work world wide and is an Aggie too.

Interesting, I still get out on new construction jobs. The commercial electricians are now saving all their scrap wire. I had a big box of scrap copper wire from my home remodel, I told the electrician Hell yes I want to old wire. That box got me 80 bucks at the scrap yard and that was a couple years ago. Foolish to throw any metal away nowadays, it is quite valuable.
