Ok here is a question.....how many here thinks that moderators help accuracy or doesn't help accuracy????

So do they help or no??? I been doing my own research. This is with a Brocock sniper XR at 53 yards.

That it depends on the brand of suppressor, the pellet/slug speed, the pellet/slug "sealing" within the rifling.

The faster the pellet, the the harsher / harder / faster the air pressure "around" and behind the pellet is. The tighter the pellet is to the barrel rifling, the less the air will affect the pellet travel. Less leakage.
All those factors will affect both the sound AND the point of impact change there will be from a bare barrel.

Every gun, and especially by barrel manufacturer, will most likely be somewhat different.

I used my moderator on my hft500 as a barrel tuner. There is only a grub screw that holds the adapter to the barrel so I can move the whole thing up and down the barrel a bit.
You can see the poi change even 1-2 mm at a time.
The hft500 is .177 and I have a .25 moderator on it to prevent clipping and also act as a sort of muzzle brake to diminish air turbulence as the pellet leaves the barrel.

When I started out moderators just seemed a mandatory thing. I had no idea. I still run them.
On one of my guns I put an Air Impulse 1200 series on it and it shot terribly. No change in tune and the shop said try the 1300. I did and the gun shot lights out. Put the 1200 back on and it was bad. We took the 1200 apart and there was no sign of clipping, no shavings, clean as a whistle. Shop told me they sold the 1200 a couple days later and made sure the buyer shot it before he paid for it. Worked just fine.
So, do they help with accuracy? Maybe on some guns they do. On others the wrong one can negatively affect accuracy.

I have tweaked my moderators to shoot the same poi as without a mod attached. Many times, the shroud has not been finished well on the end bringing the mod to attach at a slight angle, checking runout on my lathe, I can see if I need to true the shroud end or like last night, I trued up the end of a printed mod so it would shoot true.

I likewise do the same, although this won't work on AR's that don't have a fully supported barrel which will experience some droop, although its not too difficult to even temporarily affix your barrel in a way that you could run a test on your moderator to ensure no POI shifts upon its removal/addition.

If a moderator is changing your POI, its generally either due to droop from added weight on an unsupported barrel or misalignment of the bore to baffle/endcap (clipping) either due to untrue ends or poor construction.
