HW/Weihrauch Okay. Now I'm done buying airguns. No. Really I am.

Put the "not really a Goudy" (FYI Weihrauch rejected the Goudy/Beeman design and made a Monte Carlo instead. I prefer the Monte to a Goudy, myself) R8 stock on your HW50/99. It fits. I like the R8 stock better. So does Lucie. The HW99 shoots so nice at a higher power level I don't think the R8 is going to replace yours. Unless you long stroke it

See the Macarri HW50/99/R8 stock is very close to the R8 stock. In walnut.

That's good information. I'm not looking for a powerhouse. Basically I'm looking for a bigger Hw30. My 177 30s shoot ~8fpe, 700 fps w 7. 33s. I shoot them more than any rifles. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE them.

My 177 Hw50(99) shoots between 11 and 12 fpe depending on pellet. That's between 750-800 fps with ~8gr pellets. It's a great all around rifle. I love the size and the way it shoulders but it's not as fun to plink with because of the additional cocking effort. It's my squirrel gun so I run it at full power. IMO it's the best all around air rifle in the current Weihrauch lineup.

I'm hoping to split the difference between the 30 and 50 with the R8. A little bigger and little more power than the Hw30 but still easier to cock than the Hw50. I'll be happy if the R8 makes 9 maybe 10 fpe smoothly. That should put me between 700-750 fps depending on pellet.

If that doesn't happen I'll make Mike Driskill buy it 🤣 Then I'll buy another modern 50 and knock it down to 9 or 10 fpe. To be honest a I didn't pay much more for the R8 than a new Hw50 goes for now. For near the same money I'd rather have the R8. The quality on the new guns hasn't been great lately so the R8 is probably a safer bet. Plus it's relatively unique. I do suspect the R8 with its threaded receiver will be heavier than my Hw50. Less power and more weight should make it a nicer shooter than my current Hw50.

Be well
Ron

Here's a pic to complement Mike's post, evolution of the design 1954, 1965, R8 and HW55S all with screw in trigger block. The HW55(F) would be a better example, but pretty rare.View attachment 528607
To further complement Mike's post, here's an oddball HW55(F), an economy version HW55 without the expensive breech lock. This really is just a HW50 with benefits and I think you could seat an R8 in this stock?
As any company would do to make $$$, HW made all sort of "special editions" AKA marketing strategies, and only the HW77, Barakuda, HW35, a few others are really unique?

Yes, an R8 will fit

Congrats on the Weihrauch! They are very nice airguns!

...But I don't believe that's your last airgun.

Don't belive because I've said "last airgun" 4 times in the past 18 months and reneged each time.

Most recently was yesterday when I was trying to convince myself I didn't want/need another.

This morning I broke that promise to myself and ordered my last gun... yup, the last one - for sure this time... I think. 😂

Hope everyone enjoys their Weihrauchs as much as I do!

Cheers!

That's awesome! HW 55 TF's are the rarest of the rare, I've never seen one in the flesh - and what a beautiful example.

The late great Frank Korn in the Netherlands had four of the rare HW 55 "F" no-lever actions, including a TF with double-set triggers...! 😳

The fellow I recently bought my 77 from had my last bucket list gun. Feeling very happy with my 77 I had no problems buying another rifle from him. This rifle was just added to my bucket list in the last year. Thanks to the likes of Mike Driskill and others touting the shooting qualities of the early Hw50 series in a thread. The early 50 series are 25mm bores like my beloved Hw30 with a longer stroke and threaded receivers. They came in target ((55?) and non target models. They sounded interesting to me but the stock styling and lever locking breech kind of left me flat.

Then I find out for a short time Beeman marketed a Hw50 as an R8. I always thought it was the modern 26mm Hw50 that I have already have. Then I found out that the R8 was basically the earlier 25mm Hw50 with modern amenities like a synthetic seals, a normal chisel detent and a Goudy stock. Hold the phone! Now I have to have one.

Today I struck a deal on a very nice R8. Not cheap but I don't mind. There's nothing I know of like it in the Weihrauch line. I don't have it hand yet. I haven't even written the check for it yet. Here's some photos of it with aperture sights. I declined those sights to bring the price down to my budget. I'll post more pictures when I get it.

This morning I ordered a Vortek kit for my 77 I'll have to call Tom in the morning and have him add another kit on there for the R8. That's my big excitement for the day. Now that I've got my early 77 and getting a R8 I'm out of bucket list guns. That makes ten or eleven Weihrauch rifles now, so no more.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement.

Be well.

Very interesting. When I got the Monte Carlo 55S in, I couldn't help but notice how much the grip and butt resemble the R8, though the semi-beavertail fore end is quite different of course.

Well I have a HW30N, the walnut stocked model on order in .177. If at anytime in the future they offer a HW50 with a walnut stock I will probably get one of those. I just recently finished restoring a FWB 602, ssp match rifle. I honestly wish HW would offer some of their models in a walnut tyrolean style stock.
