Well OKCGC had their first XFT match at the new range! And man was it a great match with a great turn out!!! We had 18 shooters show up for this one. We didn’t know what the turn out would be, so we were very happy to have 18 shooters show up!! We are very glad and appreciative to host this many competitors. We gave them a great match to boot. There is an Oklahoma Motto that we say “Is This A Great State or What”. The weather was very kind to us, we had no cease fires, no complaints and a whole lota SMILES throughout the day. We put out 11 targets and shot at them 4 times each for a 44-round match. Our targets are not the usual ones with pull strings (ropes). We built self-resetting targets that worked great. Right now, they are all circles Kill Zones, ranging from ¾” to 3 ½”. For our next match we will build a few odd shaped KZ’s! We had one standing lane with a 2” kz at 40 yards, that will change at the next match, to make it a little more difficult.
Rick Cuccio came out with his FX Royale .22 and he was shooting at only 33 fpe at the muzzle. He knocked over the 100 target! That showed us our targets worked with lower fpe. We want to have folks that shoot with lower fpe come shoot here at OKC! Thanks Rick.
There was a variety of different rifles, and the velocities were all over the place, which is what we wanted to have. The targets worked really well with no issues, hit the KZ, knock it over and get that point!
Mr. Dave Cole shot and hit 40 of those puppies to take 1st place. Followed closely by Caleb Dickerson, with 37 hits to take 2nd place. Mike Atwell was on his game as well, hitting 36 of those KZ’s for his 3rd place chip. 4th place went to Thom Davies with a 33. 5th place was a 31 done by the one and only Mark Welker. It took 6th place to get out of the 30’s, that was done by Mr. Rick Cuccio.
I want to give a shout out to all the shooters that came out. Leon O’Neal, Tony Smith, Keith Flowers, Joe Underwood, Mike Bassett, Curtis Nelson, Larry Miller, Woody Lydell, Lindell Canary, Butch Everett, Micheál Atkinson, Paul (no last name!).
And to the ones that help out so much so that these matches come off good, your work is much appreciated!!!
