Old but New

I’m an old guy 70’s, but new to FT shooting. So new that I have only been reading about it. I’ve been hunting and target shooting all my life, but recently gotten into PCPs. I have a Weihrauch Hw110 and a Crosman Challenger rifles, and Crosman 2240 and1701p pistols. I live in Washington state , northwest corner. I’m looking for a FT club or someone interested in starting one. Also need advise will my HW 110 or Challenger work for FT shooting ? Thanks for any advise.

Vrock49,

Thank you for your post. Field target is a great shooting sport for lots of reasons and I am very glad you have interest. I could provide a treatise on the subject but will spare the members. Your equipment is fine to start and is the least difficult thing about FT. People show up with no equipment at our matches and get to shoot. The most important ingredient is willingness. Willingnes to go to a match, if there are none close then willingness to run a match. Sometimes it can be difficult. Difficult to find a match, difficult to find a place to run a match, difficult to set up and run a match, and maybe even difficult to learn how to shoot FT.

BUT if you are willing and put forth some effort it will be lots of fun. Also check out AAFTA.org, especially the Handbook.

VRock49, I just sold an airgun to a gentlemen from Yacolt, Wa a couple weeks ago. Back in 2005 The AFFTA FT Nationals were held in Washington State. So at one time it seems they had clubs there. The gentlemen I sold the airgun to didn't know of any FT clubs around other than the club Wayne Burns runs down in Ashland, Oregon. I know there is a Benchrest club in Washington also. They may do some FT. I'll do some research and see what I can find out about this club. This Fall the AFFTA FT National will likely be held in Morrow Bay, CA and if not there maybe in Ashland, Oregon. In 2012 it was held in Grants Pass, Oregon hosted by Wayne and his club. I'll post back later......

I'm in a similar boat. In the inland NW...but my boat just turned 50.

I found the club in Ashland while I was searching for clubs in my area, as the only thing popping up in WA was on the western side, where, ya know, there's more people n stuff...

I prefer the eastern side, and or OR/ID/NV.

There are a few events on the calendar for February in Ashland. I was considering driving down and checking it out.

I've been looking into field target shooting in DNR land for practice, theres quite a bit up here in different directions.

I need to look into the Idaho/Montana area more still.

I am new,but old also. I use to belong to the old Yellow and got away from air guns, but some how I got notification of a shoot and now here I am again. This is about the 3r or 4th post similar to Vrock49's that I have seen in the last 2 weeks that I started looking at airgun sites. Did Covid keep us bored for a long time and now here is an outdoor venue that we may be able to do in 2021???
