Old Eyes

Spy, I have a question for you. In my youth I had super pristine vision, as in no need for glasses, that I hugely took for granted. Now at 64 I'm on my 5th prescription and with the optimal correction for distance, in actuality, my eyes are very disappointing to me, but when getting tested at the eye doctor they are surprised my vision is as good as it is. When I shoot with my other older friends they can see details at distance I can't, even with my glasses on. This all is very odd to me. I can see well up close when the glasses prescription is good but not at distance?! What's up?

Yeah good RD's had a nice sharp dot before but nowadays are a blobsquatch.

Here's a tip for you guys that wear Rx. For the last month or so, I have been putting one drop or organic hexane free castor oil on each eyelid before bed and massage it gently into the lid. There are many health benefits for using castor oil. You can do your own research. Anyway, I had an eye exam last week and my new prescription is LOWER than my last exam.

I don't get my new pair of glasses for another few days, I'm sure I will have to readjust the diopter on my rifle scopes.

I'm a lefty but right eye dominant I've always shot from the left side, never really had too much of an issue with the left not being my dominant eye. Last year, about this time, I decided to convert to the right side, due to my left eye sight getting weaker and glaucoma getting worse. Flipped the tops on my shooting benches over and told myself I had all winter to get comfortable. About two weeks later I gave up and went back to the left side. I just never felt comfortable.

Well, here we go again. Left eye has gotten worse, actually quite a bit. The good news is I'm actually fairly comfortable this time around shouldering and aiming my airguns from the right and I can see my targets soooo much better. I think I'm at the point of giving up my hobby (which ain't happening) or staying with the right side.
I am a total lefty , but right eye dominate . i have a few righty grip target pistols that i am shooting righty , doing just fine , and the same as you target is a bit clearer , and i have had both eyes fixed (thanks to Medicare )

just looked at this site and could not find ,on any of the many pages , the price . I found the shipping cost but not the item price like it is hidden till you actually place an order . maybe i just missed the small print ?
To get a price and order online:
1) click on the order now button on the home page it will go to a 2nd page with the different models
2) click on preferred version that will go take you to another page where its says " Before Ordering " in that box you need to click on click here to take the test
That takes you to the instructions on how to order the proper Power for you particular scope.
There is a simple formula that they require you to do per Your scope to get it right

Or you can call them, but you will still need to do the procedure to determine proper power

What is your guess on the average price range on them?

So a person has to do all that to find out the price ? I started out at an advertising agency , till i wasn't sleeping too well at nights , We called that advertising style "bait and switch" it is designed to take your eye off where your reading and switch to the box or arrow pointing to a flamboyant word or phrase . " buy it now special price reduction " truned me right off .

Many of us have noticed more difficulty in shooting skills as we age. If you are over 40 or so you no longer have the ability to adjust your eyes to varying distances like before. You may notice you are slower at acquiring clear focus. Needing more light is also pretty much expected. Thankfully we have many wonderful scopes and red dot devices. Getting older also brings things like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Anyone noticing issues with glare, halos, floaters, dryness? How are you coping fellow shooters?
Wondering the same! Haha. I have some issues now myself.

Steve123. It sounds like you have more issues than just optical correction. Perhaps early cataracts? When they are surprised at how good you see, that usually means "I'm surprised how good you see considering you have this other condition going on." Any mention of cataracts or other conditions mentioned?
Thanks for the reply.

Yes perhaps but nothing they were concerned about??!!

The doc said I had better vision with the correct prescription looking into the "whateverthatmachineis" than 90% of the population but that was based off what letters I could read looking through it. The smallest letters were fuzzy but I could make them out.

But to me my vision sucks.
I remember being in my early 40's and looking through Swarovski binoc's for the first time and it was like a laser lithograph, in 3D, and enhanced by AI, lol.

You guys realize the Bulzeyepro is a magnifier right? Getting a scope with more magnification will do the same thing only better. Just sayin'
Ehh not sure that is a true statement in general...

If you go with a FFP scope the reticle grows as power level is increased, downside to that is the eye box gets so tight the scope is damn near useless, add to the fact the FOV shrinks down a country mile, then to finish it off you Usually get the chromatic aberration issue at higher power unless you have a 3K Germa scope such as Schmidt and Bender.

The Bulzeye Pro "booster" is Very light weight and does increase the reticle size on both SFP and FFP scopes without causing the above-mentioned issues..

Guys I do NOT have a horse in this race, I am just a satisfied customer that has been using these for the last 4 years and passing on My Personal 1st hand experience with this company and its product....

There are several Knock off versions out there that are pure garbage if you don't like the price of the real deal.. as with any other knock off you get what you pay for...

For me, it was mid 30's and I dropped the coin on top of the line Swarovski 56mm objective scope and Swarovski Bino's the same day, a bit of an ouch but I moved to SC and we could hunt an hour before sunrise to an hour after sunset and nothing I had would get me close. Just looking through them was completely eye opening, actually using them the next weekend in the woods was beyond eye-opening. I could spend hours in a climber glassing through the woods with no eye strain, the view was unreal and just standard german #4 reticle kept me in the game the entire hunting hours. All my leupold vari-x III scopes were gone within 2 years, kept my lesser scopes for stuff that didn't matter, top line Leupold was now total crap, replaced by swarovski/zeiss/S&B. My first clue my eyesight was going south I was about 45, feeling lazy and hunting out of a box stand on a power line because rain was in the forecast. I kept thinking there was sometihng out about 350 yards but convinced myself it was just wind blowing the weeds. My bino's were in my pack on the floor and I was too lazy to get off the comfortable chair and get them. I finally did, and there was a bunch of movement out there, several flocks of birds wandering in the weeds eating seeds on that bench about 350 yards away, all small birds. Just a year earlier, I could see sparrows clearly out there with my naked eye no problem. I started noticing other stuff and couldn't stand the "horrible" eyesight I discovered that year and went to the eye doctor. I was better than 20/20 in both eyes and the doctor questioned why I thought my eyesight sucked. It had been a good 10 years the last time I had my eyes checked before then, both eyes back then were way better than 20/10, so 20/20 sucked. I wish my eyes sucked that much now that I'm in my 60's.

My eyes started to go at 45 too. I hadn't been to a IPSC match in a couple years but back in that time frame I was a A class shooter. Now at a match at age 45 I shot a long paper stage and went out to see how I did and was totally shocked I had completely missed three times. I don't think I had ever missed the whole target before?! I got to looking at the sights closely and realized the front sight was blurry. I had some prescription shooting glasses made up which got me back to my previous ability level.
