Old fart challenge

I’m still waiting for someone to claim they were born before airguns were invented and want to throw rocks at the target...
Ya mean like Ole ww

Years ago, I was a reasonably competent shooter in several disciplines. Now, not so much, but still a lot of fun. I'm often reminded of an important lesson I learned from my son, when he was around 10 years old. We were at the range shooting, he was doing well, and I was not. He sensed my frustration and said, " don't worry Dad, just get a bigger target!" Sage advice indeed. My targets are growing with me.

Ok step away from your benches - dig out your “first airgun” buy one if you have to. Set up your target at 25 yards and FREEHAND 10 rounds. Post your pics!
I’ll be posting my Sheridan Blue Streak results this coming weekend.
You can count me out of this one. First, I haven't owned my first airgun (Crosman V350) since I was in my early teens (actually I may have been less than 10 years old, I forget) and second, I almost never shoot off-hand. I know I can't hit squat with any accuracy/precision unless I have some sort of rest. All my rests are improvised, but still they are rests.

Last shot I took off hand was at about 8 yards, with scope that focuses down to 10 yards. Killed the tree rat with a heart shot. However, off-hand shots like that are VERY rare for me! :)

My 760 and Sheridan are long gone from the 1970’s. But my dad still has my Webley Vulcan springer that I bought with the money from selling my prize PK Ripper BMX bike in 1983. The next time I’m at his house I will grab it and take the challenge. Shooting that gun offhand should bring back memories of stalking all the little woods 40 years ago. Maybe I’ll get a random old lady to scream at me for shooting birds to make it completely authentic.

We all need a son like yours!

Well I shot the challenge this evening. I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to the details since I only shot a five shot group. Still, I was pretty proud of this group for being off hand at 25 yards. It was definitely a matter of timing the trigger release during my wobbly hold. This is with my .20 caliber Beeman R10 Deluxe that I bought when I was 16 years old back in 1986. I was shooting JSB pellets.

Super results - who says ol guys can’t shoot off hand - ha!

Thanks guys. To be honest I was surprised by my own shooting. I never shoot free hand. I was so wobbly I don’t know how I kept those pellets from wandering away. I also need to thank member bdzjlz. He is the member that restored my Beeman R10 and brought her back to life. Otherwise she’d still be in the safe with a broken spring and old dried out seals.
