Crosman Older ch2009

We purchased a CH2009 for my son when he was in middle school for the shooting team he joined. Well now he's out of college and tired of looking at it on his wall. Especially since he hasn't shot it in over 9 years. We just tested it and it still had an original charge from 9 years ago and shoots straight. So..... my dilemma sell it or turn it into a varmint hunter. I Don't know much about these air rifles but I realy like how smooth it shoots. My question is how powerful are these as far as shooting pests, rats, pigeons etc? Can they be re configured?I know the T handle charging handle is an issue, can that me modified or changed?Or should I just sell it and get a nice varmint gun. I do have a brake barrel that is ok for hunting but not great.

Thoughts?

It’s a 10 meter gun designed to punch holes in paper, so less than 6 fpe most likely. In stock form a chipmunk or sparrow inside 15 yards.

There is likely a transfer port that could be enlarged to get a little more power, some anyway. It may never be a squirrel gun.

The new ones, a bit different, are going for $650 at Champions Choice. I have read the new one has a lot of improvements.
That is what you need to keep in mind if you are going to sell it.

you have a wonderful gun as a 10 meter target gun . I shoot mine up to 30 yards if no wind and i am lucky that day .
I would say sell or keep it for memories . your used to a break barrel so i would say buy a better one HW30 is nice easy gun to shoot Squirrels at 30 yards or less , pigeons fall easily too .
