Tuning On a maverick is there a do not go below setting for the second reg?

Having some issues getting the Maverick to shoot FX 18.1 grain pellets at 900 fps with the second regulator below 100 bar. The gauge on the gun is pretty much useless for getting specific readings with only 50 bar tick marks. I probably should get a gauge with better resolution. Currently I'm at 2.2 to 2.6 SD running in the range of 898's. I just don't want to damage the gun by going too low.

I would:

  1. Remove one of the Belleville washers from the regulator
  2. Reduce the hammer weight
  3. Experiment with lighter hammer springs

Theres a stainless steel hammer weight that doubles as the hammer spring guide, along with a little pre-tension spacer that goes into the hammer itself before the weight/guide. You could also try removing that little spacer to reduce tension, but I think that thing might ensure the minimum length for the hammer system is achieved.

EDIT / P.S. - I had tuned something similar to the above for a 700mm Crown with a gen3 AMP to get the reg down to 65-70bar for 15gr pellets.

Please note, removing one Belleville washer does nothing to change the minimum pressure. The minimum pressure is dictated by the spring rate...or in this case, the pressure at which the Belleville stack just barely begins to compress. In a series stack, that occurs at the same pressure whether it’s two washers or twenty.

Doing it properly would involve replacing the whole stack with thinner (weaker) washers.

Matt Duber did a video on tuning or should I say setting up the the dual regulators of the Maverick. One thing to note is the Maverick with the larger 89cc plenum is meant to be shot at higher power. According to Yohan ? A. if you want to shoot the Maverick at lower power and lower regulator setting you need to switch the position of the two regulators and plenums. That will put the smaller plenum near the rear of the rifle allowing you to use lower regulator setting. Bill

Stoti,

This is a .22 with the 700 mm barrel. The first reg is set at 126 bar (a guesstimate). As far as hammer spring I have adjusted the number 2 position until I achieved 900 FPS. From that setting if set on position 3 the velocity jumps to 918 FPS. On position 4 the velocity jumps to 935. At this hammer setting position 4 is the plateau. Trying a harder hammer hit at that point could damage the regulator. I think I'm done and the good news is the targets look reasonable and the SD's are reasonable. .
