On what pillow should my bullpup rest for maximum precision?? Sand Bag? Bipod?

On what pillow should my bullpup rest for maximum precision??

So, I want to do pellet testing at 50 and/or 100 yards with a PCP, a bullpup, with around 33 FPE.
How should I “put my gun to rest” – with a sand bag (shooting bag filled with pebbles)? A bipod? A U-yoke attached to a tripod? Or really the pillow I rested my head on last night? 😑

What else should I observe when shooting a bullpup (never done this before....)?

Thanks!

Matthias

It's all about consistency. You could rest it on a baseball bat, and, if you could do it exactly the same way every shot, it would be fine. With most air rifles, I have obtained my best results with a bipod. The only exception is purpose-built bench rest stocks that are made to fit well on mechanical front bench rest. It's trial and error.

I have found the newer Atlas BT-65 to be very stable. It has become my favorite.

The answer is, Drum Roll Please, It Depends.

I second Hostbrass. Your gun will decide. At the range yesterday with my Impact shooting from an Atlas style bipod. Shooting off bipod and rear bag, but not holding tight had one POI, when I held it tight, POI shifted enough to make a difference. Personally, I use a bipod, and a rear bag to support my hand, and sort of cradle the butt of the gun in my hand so I have micro-control of the sight picture. Works for me.

For you, might be completely different. Experiment and find out. that's half the fun around here.

Motorhead, that about the geometry, mmmh, that's an excellent point.

Matt, providence has provided me with a Skyhawk .22, already with the necessary mods, a long held dream. Thanks, Rafael aka racolon, for selling it to me!! 😊

I have the very same bag in your photo, just never filled the rear support that full like yours. Got to try that. Thanks.
