One hole group challenge - smallest group size

Hello everyone

Here is my latest attempt at the One Hole Challenge, this time using my new Snowpeak PP800R .177. I ran out of the Wadcutter pellets and used JSB Diabolo 8.44gr and they leave a ragged hole so it was hard to make a measurement on some shots. Some "off" tears I did not include in the measurements because it was not the pellet hole. Actually I am pleased with all 9 targets but I really like that bottom right 4.72mm set  . For you folks that have not tried this, it is hard :( to group 5 shots into one tiny hole, BUT it sure is fun :p

By Jove, I believe he's got it! Nice shooting Thomas.

I believe you are right, he’s dialed in!
ThomasT isn’t it so satisfying when you can do that?
Nothing like all shots in one hole to paste a smile on the face.
You are going to be deadly this summer when fly season starts!
Hello @davelarson

I am having more fun with this little Pistol than the law should allow 😁 . Wish that I had not run out of Wadcutter pellets then that target would have looked a bit better. I have on order one of those 1200 boxes of Wadcutters so it will be a while before I need more.
Stay warm and keep on shooting.

Its funny way back flat head / wad pelleys was the most common to buy here local. Now its one place in big town or mail order.

Use to be plenty of plastic box crosman copperhead pellets hanging or daisy .

Like at Walmart you got pointed , cphp , destroyer, parahnas, gamo redfires and rockets , but not the first tin of any flathead/wad pellets .

Being they do daisy youd think the black box flats would be a gimme, nope just the super sad daisy pointed.

Hello @rsfrid

OK Ross, You need to start a new Challenge called the 3-N-2 Challenge. The object is to shoot 3 pellets in one hole and 2 in the other :rolleyes:o_O:oops: whut?

Here is my entry.....:p. I shot 3 in that first hole and had it going and then choked up 🤪.

By the way, my best shot group is 4.9mm or so. So you bested me with that group on your good target sheet 4.72mm.

Hello @rsfrid

Well that was an accident, look at the rest of my shots. I saved that card and here is a photo from the back side. The ragged hole makes it hard to get an exact measurement.

I agree with your measurement though. Really nice group.

Hello again Ross,

OK here is another view from the backside it could be 5.00mm to 5.03mm if you zoom in on the photo. This will be like at the Salt Flats, to be official I must make two run with the same time ( or two One Holes of the same size ). As soon as my Wadcutter pellets arrive I will be back at it shooting new paper.

Hello everyone,

Only have two One Hole Challenge scores worth turning in today . The upper left 5.57mm and the bottom center 6.04mm. Never could get my mojo going. Still tearing the paper real bad even though I replaced the cardboard backing.

Can you print on cardstock, like cheap file folders cut down?

Hello @rsfrid

Ross this is that heavy paper that I had the local print shop print for me. I found out what the problem is, it is the cardboard backing material. I purchased a full bundle of what was supposed to be "30-pound" box grade cardboard flat sheets. To put it mildly, it is crap, and I got took. It is the correct thickness but it has no strength and the whole backside blows out with each pellet. I will have to double it up and maybe even glue it together. We have 72 degree weather here today and I have been shooting 10-Meter targets all morning on my outside targets with some old original cardboard with no problems. I have shot a full mag at one hole ( 8-shots ) and it does tear the paper of course but not real bad. Shooting at 15-feet vs 33-feet even with this little pistol does make a difference on the pellet "hit". I will look at some heaver stock next time I am in town and may get them to do a test print for me.

The heavy paper, unless a special type, we typically at Amazon and Big Bx get has fairly large piece make-up. Official "target" paper has a fine grain piece base it is composed from and is finished differently. So thought similar in weight, they are not really the same.
Hello @drpietrzak ,

Yes I understand, the "target" paper is not as strong and allows the pellet to pass through very easy. This heavy paper that I had a bunch of different targets printed on is really strong and resist tearing even by hand.

1/4” foam-core board makes great backers. It's the stuff photographers dry mount their photos on. I have a case of 36”x48” sheets and cut it down to 12”x12” for my pellet traps. I can use plain xerox paper taped to it and there will be clean holes from wad cutter pellets. You've seen some in some of my pics. https://www.amazon.com/White-Foam-C...mzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0

Hey Ross,

I will have to try that.

I just ran a test, I took 10 pages out of a catalog printed on this heavy chrome paper and taped it to my cardboard. Then taped my target on the paper and see the photo. I actually have two problems. My paper ( the heavy stock from the printer ) is too strong and you can see the fibers trying not to tear on the single shot hole #24. On #25 that is 5 shots in that hole and again look at the fibers. Also that cardboard sucks. Oh well, I can use those targets for rifle shooting and get some new ones printed for Pistol shooting.
