one solid year

After one solid year of sticks and bucket practise i am thinking of building a benchrest/ FT range for people that are not "sturdy" enough to shoot FT . I just can not pretzel up and be steady @ 78 .
maybe a shooting jacket with internal steel bracing ?
OK rant over going out to practice more .

It does take time and practice to get steady bucket and sticks, and that time varies for different people. But it DOESN'T take under an hour like some have said here on AGN... It'll get better, it took me over a year to get my wobble down to about 1/2 MOA at 100 yards...

Mr. Beer
Don't give up yet.
It took me a while too to just sit and relax into the WFTF position. I take it that you were planning to participate in WFTF piston in Arizona in 2024?

I got a curve spine, 60% of my vertebrae are fused together with arthritis. With a lot of encouragement from my WFTF shooting buddy, I kept doing sit ups, and training myself to sit on my bum bag with both knees up. I got a custom stock to fit. Adjusted the length of pull, hamster and butt hook to fit my body. I also started wearing a shooting jacket recently (this year) for all shots (unbutton towards my belly as I'm circumferentially challenged). Try the position with the hamster resting on your leading knee. Then use your supporting hand to slightly support the forearm. I finally found this to be the most stable position for my body type.

Eventually, you'll find a stable position...like this guy pictured below.

This guy below should be an inspiration to us all. If he can get into the WFTF position....(apologies for using the picture without permission.) YOU CAN GET INTO A LEGAL WFTF POSITION if you try.

Come on Fellas...IT'S ONCE in a life time!!!
Please consider shooting 2024 WFTF in Arizona. This international venue will probably take a long time to rotate back to the USA again.

Don’t pretzel up if its not comfortable!!!! I’ve found a long time ago that the more comfortable i am and the more relaxed the better i shoot. You can’t concentrate on your target if you're thinking of your sore whatever. This is me shooting a 100 yd target

Knocked it down twice too!

Common saying in reference to joint mobility, range of motion, and general joint function is: if you don't use it, you lose it.

Think of field target as a way to stay semi-active and semi limber. (Not that field target is excessively strenuous, but depending on ft class and relative activity levels, can get REAL limber and REAL active, when compared to.....modest baselines for both).
