opinion for a scope for rws34 for hunting squirrels

The 34 has some recoil to it, as all spring guns do, going with a scope that has an etched reticle always improves your chance of scope life longevity. A quality one-piece mount will also help. An AO or SF - side focus for distance clarity is also a PLUS when shooting / hunting with an air rifle.

I wrote in another post about getting what you pay for in optics and what works best for you, my experiences with Hawke etched AMX reticle and NIkon EFR scopes (airgun rated) have been positive.

Sorry...brain fart, Should have read the title again. For my back yard pesting, all under 25yds, I have two different set ups. Two springers with 4x scopes. More than enough for accurate headshots. My RWS 34 now has a Hawke 4x with a Bullseye ZR-mount...(Since it just destroyed my last scope) and a model 48 with an UTG 4x on normal rings. The UTG is holding up to the springer and I don’t expect the Hawke to have any problems with the recoil absorbing mount.

Nice. I bet the hawke would do ok even without the mounts!

Glenroilad,

You are right it would probably be fine. I just had the the ZR mount laying around so decided to play with it, see how it holds zero and such. Originally I was going to put it on my 48 as it has a reputation for scope wrecking, but the UTG is holding up ok. If, or when the UTG dies I will upgrade to a better scope, maybe an Athlon or a SWFA 6x and a ZR mount if it proves itself on the 34.

Nice! I have a Vortex diamondback that is holding up perfectly on my 48 and thousands of shots in already. Its only recently that I'm thinking of "upgrading" to a scope with parallax on it. The diamondback I have is focused at 50 yards, and I shoot almost exclusively under 50. Curious how much it'll help me....
