Opinions - GX CS3-I Portable Compressor

I am moving into an apartment and i am looking for a decent and portable compressor, sort of budget that isn’t too loud.

The compressor needs the following requirements:

  • Under $600
  • can fill a 1 L bottle (I have a best fitting 1.1 L)
  • Portable and can be used off a car battery
  • Quieter than the Yong Heng

So does anyone have experience with the GX CS 3 PCP Compressor? Specs wise it sounds like it would meet my needs. Or should I get a 7 L bottle / 69 CF? or is there an alternative?

The connecting rod snapped on my GX after 6 months. I now have the Ares compressor its really quite comparied to my GX and fills faster. But no 12v :( sadly



Edit, if you grease the connecting rod every 20 fills it won't have the same outcome as mine. Picture shows where to grease with arrow.

My Nomad is also pretty quiet compared to my GX But over your listed budget price. All the fan cooled ones will be around 88 to 98 decibels.

The airnarksman from Utah air seems like it's pretty nice.

Having ordered 2 of those and returned both ... they work well (sorta) until they don't. First one: was working fine for a few days, then would not pressurize past 800psi or so. Second one: sluggish fill, would not meet the 35 second timer to 300 bar with blind cap on hose.

I'm in the same situation as you it seems (apartment, live alone, don't want loud noises, can't lug a giant 100 pound compressor into my apartment alone) so am leery of ordering a Yong Heng compared to praying that 3rd time's the charm with the CS3-I. I also like the peace of mind that Amazon gives me with the 4 year warranty and the free returns :(

If you're just looking for a portable compressor the Vevor one I have has been going 2 years strong now running on 12v with minimal maintenance. Greasing the crankshaft & connecting rod. every 30 fills Changing to O-rings on the filter when they feel dry. Comes with all the replacement parts other than the grease. I use marine grease as the parts sweat from the heat. The fan is the loud part. But if you take the cover off and balance the fan dynamically its pretty quiet. With the fan balanced its 72 db.

Vevor has one year warranty but its such a hassle. They want pictures, video. Then they will make you take it apart to try and fix it with a tech through email, who can barely type in English. It will go on for weeks. Vevor is in Southern California but their customer service is in China. I'd go with Amazon if you don't have the patience.

I have their orange compressor and the gx cs3 version. My gx cs3 being repaired or exchanged.

I’ve had my cs3-I for a few months now with no complaints. Filled my dreamline lite enough times to run a little over 1000 pellets through it and now filling my Leshiy 2 to 300bar without issue. I grabbed Amazon’s 4 year extended warranty for peace of mind, but these are supposedly built by the same people that build omega compressors, so I have high hopes. I love that no external cooling is needed and it’s a oil less design. Time will tell, but no issues yet and it will do 120bar to 300bar in about 4 minutes….not even long enough to get warm. I’ll likely grab a bottle in the future and fill it with it. I don’t foresee any issues, just will take a bit of time.

Blackpaw, I have had one for about 2 years. There is a check valve that occasionally needs to be cleaned. Under the base unit there is a 19mm hex head bolt. If you cant each full pressure, take the bolt out, remove the spring and rubber ball. Clean and replace. Presto! Pump gets a good seal and will deliver 4500 pain again.

Pretty simple and very quiet. I do have a YH pump for filling my tank, but the GX pump gets used most often.

@jimnm First thanks for the recommendations / info. 
I used the GX CS1 in the field over the weekend using the car battery for power, it worked like a charm to fill the guns.

The only thing I wish the different is the compressor’s “jumper cables” were longer so they stretch from the battery ground then use a large and cheap cookie sheet as a base (metal to protect against heat build up) or a portable metal top yet sturdy table. In the future I’ll look for a table to meet the needs for the guns, compressor and general use.

My friend has the same compressor. I agree the battery cables are too short. We solved the problem by bringing a 1400 W lithium battery generator with us. Now we set everything up on the tailgate and plug it in.

I made a tool battery rig for my 12 volt needs, I get at least 4 fills from 3000 to 4500 on a pair of 9ah batteries. These are bigger fills on my Umarex Hammer and my extended tube Bulldog, about 10 minutes each fill. I also have a bunch of power tools that use the same batteries so they are multipurpose for me. And if all else fails, I can still pull out the car cables and if needed I bought a set of 15 foot 4 gauge jumper cables to get it away from the car. I may be looking for a backup compressor, and I've kind of decided that the CS3 with external AC supply is the one I would want. That way I'm not carrying the extra size and weight out to the range where I don't have AC power anyway. When I bought my Benjamin I thought the internal supply was a requirement, but not anymore. I'll use these devices way more often on battery power than on AC power so the external AC seems to make more sense now.
