Opinions on Semi-Auto PCPs

I recently purchased a Steyr LP50 HP pistol. This little semi-auto was purchased primarily to help me practice for .22LR Bullseye Competition in my basement, since it is closer to my .22LR Pardini than anything else I’ve seen, Well, it’s done the job. Not only that, but I am so impressed with it that I’ve developed a hankering for a semi-auto rifle to match it.

I already have a semi-auto Marauder. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. It’s accurate, fun to shoot and easy to empty a magazine into a 2-3” circle at 50 yards in a few seconds (offhand). However I find myself shooting my FX airguns more (Crowns, Impact, Wildcat Sniper and Compact).

I’ve been looking at the Huben K1 since they seem to have a great reputation, but I’ve never seen one live, much less shot one. The LCS doesn’t sound like the gun for me, plus I have no desire for a full-auto anything.

Then along came the Steyr, and now I’m looking at the Steyr Pro X 😬

Now, I expect the Steyr to have the best trigger. And I love then fact that the magazines are removable, but they cost $100+ each, not to mention that the rifle is significantly more expensive than then Huben.

I would really appreciate any comments or advice from those who have some experience with either or both of the guns I mention. In particular, anything you can tell me about the Huben trigger would be appreciated. I’ll probably sell a Wildcat (not the Compact but the Sniper duplicates what i have in my Impact and one of the Crowns) and the Marauder to help finance the Steyr.

Hello I own at the LCS and love, it and works very well as a gun to supplement practice with an ar. But as you said probably not for you, from your post it seems you are leaning towards the Steyr, get what you want and don't settle, it may be a little more but in the end you usually get what you wanted in the first place but spend a lot more money getting there. Hi chris I have had my huben for 3 months now and love it. It's small, light(for me), powerfull and accurate. Very nice form factor for hunting. Off the bench it's been stellar to. I actually like the fact it's a non removable mag it slows me down alittle so I don't blow thru to many pellets lol. The trigger is adjustable but I haven't got in to that yet. Stock mine breaks at 2.5pds. Kelly told me I can adjust it down to the low 1's. Goodluck with your decision I'm sure there will be others that will chime in.

I have a Huben K1 and LCS-19 in 25 caliber. I would take the Huben over the LCS-19 for just about anything. The Huben is much smaller and lighter and from my experience more powerful. The Huben does have an adjustable trigger that is light years ahead of of LCS. It's trigger is light and can be adjusted to essentially zero single stage. I do not have a trigger scale but it is very similar to a Vulcan for trigger weight. I would believe less than 2 pounds. Just so you know, I do like the LCS-19 but I find the Huben superior in most aspects.

I'm glad I got my ProX, no regrets here. It's one of my favorite plinkers now. Precise, reliable, great shot count, good trigger, good ergo's. It is on the heavy side but feels well in offhand. As you know the build quality with Steyr is about as good as it gets so that's covered.

I just mounted my Athlon 2-12x42 back on it and sighted it in for the big airgun gettogether we've going on this weekend in NM so I hadn't shot it in a while. Yep it's what I had wanted since it came out years ago, remembered from last time I shot it, and like it every time I use it. 

Mags are expensive but I only bought one so not horrible.

Mike, good to hear a direct comparison of the Huben and the LCS-19. I had heard some not so great things about the LCS trigger (although there isn’t universal agreement on it) and feared that the Huben might be similar. I’m leaning towards a .22 for the Huben (and the ProX) but I have wondered whether or not to go up to a .25 if I get the Huben (the Steyr is only available in .22 and .177 as far as I know). Obviously you are happy with your .25. Does it shoot a wide variety of pellets well? At the moment I am not that much into slugs.

Just as I was calming myself down with all this Huben talk you go and remind me how sweet that Steyr ProX is.

i had a huben for a while. had no issues with the trigger. if i don't notice the trigger, that's a good thing, and i never noticed it on mine really.

i did have a few jamming issues, but ultimately i sold it due to the complexities of it, and the non removable magazine

the magazine was annoying to reload each time, but i also never quite felt safe with that thing. i bought it used, and it was shipped to me with some jsb 18's accidentally left in the mag. from that point on i was never comfortable with that rifle ever being "safe"

Yeah, this is one of the things that concern me. Of course, I suppose that one could just always shoot until empty….



Another Huben pick here. Very accurate and effortless trigger that's very crisp and predictable. My wife favors it because it's so simple to use and shoot

Thanks. I think I am going to have to find a way to at least hold a Huben before I make a decision.

Huben for me too. I've owned a couple, worked on several and still have one. It's my only pcp now. Hubens have a pretty good trigger around 1# , fairly quiet, very accurate if set correctly and gets lots of shots. Plus the ergonomics are light years ahead of the LCS, and Yes I've shot a few of them and was going to buy one but changed my mind. Power can be adjusted from a few ft lbs to 60 +. It has externally adjustable reg too. Great hunting guns and as stated above, not too shabby off the bench.

I wouldn't hesitate to get another Huben - awesome rifles. Although I prefer the tinkerability of the Leshiy 2.

I had a Pro-X and sold it. I have an SK-19. I haven't shot anything but the Leshiy 2 for several months now. Love, love, love those guns!

CT Shooter, GeneT, I thought about a Leshiy 2, but they are essentially made of Unobtanium right now.
