Opinions on traditional CO2 pellet rifles like Beeman QB78

From what little digging I have done these appear to be a Chinese import CO2 rifle.

Are these good rifles?

What are other options similar to this design that are instock? (Like the wood)

Any other CO2 guns to look at?

Just exploring the idea of a CO2 gun as a plinker and nothing more.
Check out flying dragon airguns, just bought a xs 60 c for my grandchildren, and I am very impressed with the accuracy. Using 7.3 jsb pellets.

Xs60c from flying dragons is based off of the qb78, which in turn based off the old crosman 160. $150 tuned out the door from Mike, your not gonna find any better for cheaper. I had him set mine for 700fps in .22, 1/2 group @25 all day if you do your part, taken lots of squirrels with mine.

They tend to be good shooters. I've owned and tuned a number of them. 1/4" or smaller groups at ten yards are not at all unusual with inexpensive pellets if you get a decent barrel. There's a ton of info on them over on GTA. They have a big following there.

They're very rewarding if you like to tinker with them. The QC on them can be spotty, though. Expect to sand off some sharp edges.

Luck,

J~

What’s GTA?

It's 'Gateway To Airguns'. It's another airgun forum. Here's the archive that I used for finding info on tuning up the QB. - QB-7X Gate -W/Co2 & HPA

Here's my 22 in current form (top) and an original QB77.

Luck,

J~

I have one of Mike's full power tuned .22 XS60C awesome co2 rifles. Also have the QB78 .22 also a good gun.

I have the target version, I carved out the grip, so can shoot it lefty. I bought this rifle used years ago off old Yellow classifieds- previous owner got it from Mike @ Flying Dragon’s & had it tuned. At 20 yards this rifle can shoot almost hole in hole- very precise. Added. For what they cost, you’re getting mostly wood and steel rifle, that are nice shooters.

I had a bottle version Co2 one in .177 and killed a bunch of squirrels with it out to 35 yds, actual hunting shooting them out of hickory/oak trees not shot off a feeder.. mine were very accurate, dime size or small groups at 25/30 yds. Triggers can use some work but are nice once done, Mike Melick(Flying Dragon Air rifles) did mine if I remember correctly.

If needing a Co2 rifle do grab a QB! Wood and metal, will hold gas forever (years) and the triggers with simple adjustment are outstanding. Had a hot rodded one (valve from flyingdragon) in .22 that did shoot 19.5fpe with a naturally lowered shot count. The only thing you would really want to do to one -other than adjust trigger- is remove the fur ball in the front of the valve as it will one day degrade and foul your valve. Even if that happened it just needs cleaned out.
I still have a .177 QB78 converted to a 79 using a Ninja bottle. That one had the barrel cut and a target crown done and if handed to a good shooter could easily win an FT match. Taken countless Squirrels out 50 yards.
