Other airgun forums....

No one take this personally ..... PLEASE !!

The GTA has been the greatest THINK TANK for modern air guns I've ever visited and became a proud participant in these conversations because of this.

While the GTA forum was open to all who registered and followed some simple rules, the draw for me was INNOVATION, Thinking outside the box and actually talking about it !!

If you are / were interested in how deep the rabbit hole go's on dang near any Air gun, parts or pieces along with cutting edge design innovation you were a member of the GTA !!

All the Other AG forums, AGN too have been and still have a texture of MAINSTREAM CHATTER of the in & outs of new AG users, those who promote new product a place to grandstand being by in large with simple questions & simple answers. Nothing wrong with that ... JUST DIFFERENT from what some want or wish to get out of this hobby, sport etc ..

Yes .. the NEW GTA under new ownership is not that of the previous GTA ... Most of the Thinkers and Doers are FEW these days ... self included.

Primary reason for becoming more active here at AGN is in hopes it continues to grow in "scope" having deeper conversations in R&D .. Innovation .. Actual goings on inside these modern air weapons.

Humbly stated ...

Agree. Treasure trove of detailed technical & modding info. Learned a lot there although the abundant chatter takes some time to wade thru -- not always easy to find the forest for the trees. AGN by contrast is sometimes a bit too light on real modding specifics IMO. Thankfully there are some veteran motor lovers who chime in when ideas start running out ...🐦

I’ve been a member on GTA for 3 years. While I don’t post there as much as I do here it’s not because I like this forum any better. Most of the threads that interest me on GTA are more of the advanced technical aspect that I have little to contribute making me a silent observer. Especially when reading posts by Bob Sterne.

Quick tip for navigating GTA: if most of your AGN reading is in the PCP section you can ignore all the other sections on GTA and go to their PCP(dark side) section. GTA is kind of like a Chinese food menu. At first all the options make it look overwhelming but after trying a few dishes your options get narrowed down to the few dishes you really like and you ignore all the other crap on the menu. My favorite dishes on GTA: PCP(Darkside), Bob & Lloyds workshop, classifieds

I agree on too much sub-forums over at GTA. I still visit at least once or twice a week but sometimes longer. I skim through the PCP/Darkside because that's all I'm interested in. I have it bookmarked and leave a page open on my internet browser on my phone so it takes me straight there without having to navigate through it. I also agree, there's some technical threads that I like to wade through depending on the topic at hand.

If you have a problem with another forum why do you come here to criticize? Post your concerns and complaints on that forum. Do it in a civilized manner and if enough people agree with you maybe you will affect a change.

All of these forums have their good points and bad points. I participate at some level in many of them. I have learned things from all of them. GTA has a lot of sub forums. Others don't separate subject matter enough. They are all different to a certain extent.

They all have their inner circle of people who seem to dominate. Some of that can be frustrating at times. But they also all have those people who are courteous and helpful beyond what you might expect sometimes.

Look for the positive and you will find it.

Getting back to the Q of "Other forums" ..... so many of them simply DO NOT have enough traffic, members who post being in some instances a harbor for those who have run into trouble on OTHER forums !! Or a group of members that capitalize on there input being the final say on the matter. We have all seen such outlandish conduct on some forums and the short of fist fight differences of opinion typed for all to read. Personally NOT A FAN of such unfiltered forums.

Content is key .... Regurgitation and Repeated misinformation read over and over on many web forums is BAD !! and while not really effecting those who know better, it does effect new folks when what they read is watered down word speak without any real content. Too much Fat not enough Meat !!

Anywho ... just sharing thoughts.

running a forum is a thankless task. its not easy dealing with the personalities, the tehcnical issues etc. I know this first hand

GTA’s software is outdated, but I know from direct experience a site-wide upgrade is very challenging and fraught with danger.

They'd be better off REORGANIZING the subforms to bring the airguns stuff to the top, and move the sub forums listed higher up below the AG content. We come there for AG stuff, and I wont come back if I have to wade though unrelated stuff. The new owner has asked a couple of times what could be done to make it better, many gave great suggestions but it appears that most were ignored.

And..... forums are only as good as the content and the people the visit them.

i am one of those who make the double posts between here and gta, especially when seeking help. i figure the more coverage the better.

i've gotten more traction regarding springers on gta, and pcp's on here, but overall have been much more active here. i've found the crowd over here to be overall more friendly. i've never had a bad or rude experience over there, just how i generally feel about the two.

i still visit gta daily, and use the "Show Unread" posts functionality. i also check the bargain and member classifieds, but they seem to have slowed down.

Agree with Scott's opinion regarding GTA. if I am looking for deeper technical information, I know that GTA is the place to go. To me, AGN is more of a social place. Both forums have value for me, and I check both of them daily or more often. Because of this, I don't check into other forums very often...the information there seems to have been covered very well between AGN & GTA.

Well said Scott. For example, the depth of knowledge in the GTA German Airgun Gate has been tremendously helpful. On a similar note, I have been the beneficiary of some great PCP advise from Bob Sterne in the AirGunGuild "Ask Bob" board. Bottom line - you just have to know where to look when trying to find answers!

But like others have said, this seems to be where I'm spending most of my time now!

Many years ago I started out on the Marauder form, Then jumped ship and joined the TAG form, It was very active as the Crickets were just selling and bullPups were a new thing, Everything you wanted to know about your gun just click on it and it was all in order, Earnest Rowe was making his mark on the TAG site, I went over to the TAG site just the other day Tony has added a few guns like the RTI guns, I do like that you do not have to wade through all the Air Arms,FX,s Gamo , ect ect:: to read on all the specs on your gun, I bought one of the first Mutants that hit the USA , I also got banned from AGN talking about what a great gun it was, I was called a dealer of cheap PCP guns, LOL. Water under the bridge and a long time ago,,,, But I think TAG is a good form to go check out .

enough rambling
