Well folks, the Ozark Mountain Airgun Club has completed our first event. Our attendance took a hit with the reschedule but we still had a great time. 7 airgunners participated. Here are the winners.

Most squirrels go to Kao and Casey (3 squirrels)

It was fun to meet other airgunners. I look forward to our next event. And hopefully the ones that couldn't make this event will be able to make the next. Perhaps a target shooting competition in November. See you all at the next event!

Unfortunately our first event as Ozark Mountain Airgun Club is going to have to be rescheduled due to bad weather.

Location: Lead Mine Conservation Area (near Tunas, Mo)

Weigh in time: 3:00pm central

Event: Squirrel Hunt Competition

Categories: Teams of 2

Most squirrels (limit of 10 per person)

Heaviest squirrel

Prizes: Casey is making some nice reactionary targets to give out to the team that wins most squirrels. And an assortment of paper targets to the winner of largest squirrel. Winners will also receive our clubs 1st hats with our 1st logo put on an adjustable carhartt cotton hat.

We plan to arrive October 8th to have a burger grill and meet&greet. As well as an overnight camp. Campground location is pending due to plans having to change for previous set date. It will be either one of these, but I will have to post that Friday of the location when I get there.

Anyone planning to participate in the squirrel hunt is responsible for knowing Missouri laws and have proper permits for hunting squirrel in Missouri.
 
Counting down the days until October! It's a perfect time to get out and enjoy some of the best smallgame hunting Missouri has to offer. We chose Lead Mine Conservation Area due to its centralized location in Missouri.

The Conservation Area spans over 7,700 acres and has plenty of horse trails throughout making it a Squirrel Hunters dream. The trails make maneuvering through the forest more enjoyable especially during the early fall months when the under growth is still leaved out.

I have attached some images of the area below along with some basic information on the area itself. 

(If you plan on attending be sure you have your Smallgame Hunting License before you show up. There might not be any cell service when you get there depending on your wireless provider)

Like Sam stated earlier we will be providing a camp fire meal including Local Farm Raised Beef Burgers, Sides, Drinks, and the crowd favorite Cowboy Beans (a family recipe). 

If you have never been out Squirrel Hunting and have always wanted to give it a try I encourage you to come out. I have been Squirrel hunting for many years and have tons a tips I can share from my experience out in the woods. People might think airgun hunting squirrel is a breeze, but you have to remember they are in the Top 10 of the Smartest Animals in the world. They require some skill or sometimes beginners luck to harvest! I will even show you some of the gear I use when out in the woods hunting small game to make your hunting experience more enjoyable!

List of basic gear to bring to make your hunting experience more enjoyable:

Bipod/Monopod Shooting Stick also can double as a walking stick

Lumbar/Fanny Pack for snacks, extra pellets, and to carry your game

Backpack if you prefer something bigger than a Lumbar Pack

Good pair of Hiking/Hunting Boots

Camo Apparel (not always needed to be successful in your hunt, but I recommend throwing some on if you have it)

Camelback or alternative water source

A sling for your Rifle (always my top priority when packing for a hunt)

A Rangefinder can also come in handy for the longer shots in the fall when the leaves are off

A nice sharp knife for when it comes time to whittle a stick while you wait or skin a squirrel after the hunt has ended

Definitely I will be going on this event to meet new friends that enjoy the great outdoors and must of all bring there favorite Airgun to just plink around or go on an epic squirrel hunt on this beautiful piece of land, Count me in on this I can’t wait. I will be bringing my MK3 Impact if it ever comes in from Utal Airgun lol and of course my wife Edgun Leshiy 2.

Yeah Buddy! Looking forward to teaming up with you again, Kao. It's always a good time getting together for a Squirrel hunt and camp out! 

I also have an extra hammock if you don't want to bring a tent. It should be perfect weather to string up a hammock by October 1st.

I'll get you a tin of .22 Hades from my stockpile so we can see how that L2 shoots them! Gotta love the Hades design for Squirrel Hunting.

Last year around October 1st Kao and I attended a Squirrel Tournament for a local school and the leaves were starting to turn and fall. A lot of squirrels were harvested that weekend! I enjoy hunting when the leaves are still partially on. It makes it more challenging in a way, but also can help you close the distance between you and the game animal.

Sounds good. Extended the invitation to an ex-coworker who will most likely flake on me at the last minute so if anyone is running solo, I may be available for teaming up. Any bonus points for using a recurve or longbow and how does the deer population look down there? That will be well into bow season and may have to stick around for a sunday deer hunt.

Yes it’s also archery season for deer, I’m planning to bring my bow and tag just in case there’s a shooter lol, me and Casey will likely stay tell Sunday but I will be down there Friday morning on one of my friends private land that’s 35 minutes away from the conservation land to see if I could get a deer (small doe) for an open camp fire grill that night when we hang out so cross your finger that I do get one haha.

Well that's just great! Now I'm debating on bringing my crossbow too, after all this talk of archery season!

I wanted to add, for all of the folks out there that enjoy airguns and may be interested in coming but aren't necessarily into squirrel hunting, I still encourage you all to come out that Friday. Even those that are interested in airguns, but havent quite made the jump. It will be a great opportunity for us all to get to know one another. Shoot some airguns at the range. And enjoy a meal around the campfire. We could even discuss our next event.
