I bought a few of these some years back, when Amazon discounted them to $7.50 each. I converted one of them to a 22, using a spare 1322 barrel. I used epoxy on the piston top to increase the compression and also machined a ring in the piston to hold oil soaked felt. It's my favorite P17, since the ammo is a lot easier to handle. Cocking effort is the same. Shoots a hair under 400 fps with 14gr pellets.
Initial cocking takes some effort. I usually rest a portion of the gun on something to make it easier. After a while it becomes second nature.
Even at list price, stock P17's are a lot fun. They are good shooters with a decent trigger. No, they are not serious target pistols, but they are fun to plink with and refine your skills with a low outlay of cash. Great to introduce new people to the sport.
