Paint for plastic stocks?

I bought Rustoleum at my local ace Hardware. Cleaned the stock thoughly with alcohol before painting. I applied 3 light coats of paint then 3 light coats of clear coat.

Another vote for Rust-Oleum. They make flat camo color, too. Several light coats as opposed to spraying on a heavy one coat looks best.

James, I went to my local paint store(not a box store)that had a section for custom automotive paint(catering to the hot rodders). I told them I needed it to be flexible, so they targeted paints for like dash boards, consoles, etc.
I brought in a Monstrum scope in FDE and they matched it in a spray can mix. Along with that I picked up adhesion promoter, plastic primer, cleaner degreaser for plastics, along with a few tack cloth wipes to really remove any fine particles prior to painting.

As you know, the prep is the key. You definately want to do a light scuff on the plastic before anything else is done

The composition of the plastic stock is important. I’ve used Rustoleum Fusion with mixed results. Dura-Coat works adequately on properly prepared Zytel. Scrub the stock with hot soapy water to get any oil, grease, or mold release off it. You may want to lightly sand Zytel stocks with very fine grit sand paper to remove the waxy surface. I recommend an adhesion promoter like Bulldog or just good primer next. I personally prefer good quality model paints like Humbrol or Testors applied with a cheap airbrush. Finish it with two to three coats of clear flat.
